I have been looking into Turbos and Superchargers, now a full turbo kit has the follow for 3800 dollars
Street Sleeper Turbo System (Fox):
- Garrett T-44 or T-61
- T3/04 Stainless Turbo Header
- Passanger-Side Shorty Header
- 3" Downpipe
- 2 1/4" Crossover Tube
- Y-Pipe with Ball Flanges
- 2 1/4" Black Intercooler Piping
- 3" Bar-Plate Intercooler (Vertical Flow)
- Silicon Intercooler Hose
- Cartech Billet Fuel Pressure Ragulator (FMU)
- Hi-Pressure In-Tank Fuel Pump (255 lph)
- Racing Wastegate w/ Hi-Temp Diaphragm
- Cartech Boost Gauge & Mount
- K&N Air Filter
- All Hardware & Fittings for Installation

I know someone that could help me put it in for pretty cheap, but maybe i could save a little money if i went with a supercharger instead? How many Add ons would be needed for supercharger compared to a Turbo. Also wondering what you guys would recommend for Boost levels on stock 93 5.0 AOD 60k orginal miles. I would like to know what Turbo/Superchargers you would recommend and if Twin turbos would be nessarsary for a Stock mustang. Some time i plan on rebuilding engine to handle higher boost levels, lets say around 500hp, also might decide if i have money to put TKO 5 Speed in.....Thanks hope someone replies

You really havn't said anything about what you expect to gain or what you want out of boosting your car (more HP is a given). You want torque across the powerband, peak HP gain, seat of the pants thrill, streetability, etc...? Also post your mods and your budget.

If your mechanicaly inclined,I would recommend installing either of them on your own. For 1. Youll learn and understand the system better, and 2. Youlll know how to fix it when it breaks. I would personally laugh at someone who has such a power adder on their car and doesnt know how to remove or install it. Turbo kits are generally more expensive then supercharger kits due to the amount of piping and parts uncluded. You could however build your own junkyard turbokit for under $1500.

A thorough tune up would be a good idea starting point, as well as a compression test on your cylinders to check for any leakdown through the piston rings...and look for any oil leaks around the motor as well. Simple bolt-ons such as roller rockers, MAF+injectors, are all going to help free up hrosepower. Many STOCK BLOCK turbo mustangs are making well over 500rwhp with nothing more then a turbo kit, 10-12psi, and 42 lb injectors.

A single T66 or 61, T4 housing turbos would work great with a stock block application, with some room to grow. Anything larger then 70mm is really too big for a stock block, and really anything smaller then a 57mm wont give you any room to grow. Twins arent needed, they are more for the "BLING" factor more then anything. A properly sized single will be competitive to twins any day of the week.

Good Luck, keep us posted. :nice:

Just subscribing for future reference.

I would really go for a Turbo kit versus a Supercharger because (1)Turbos will make more power/torque than a Supercharger (2)No messy belts to deal with (3)no drag on the crank.

Only thing I like about Superchargers is you can install them over a weekend versus welding and fabricating the plumbing for Turbo kits. If only, there was a "True Bolt-On" Turbo kit, that would be great.

Ive had sorta the same question but someone told me ,yes I'd get more HP from the turbo but it takes a while to spool up where the supercharger is right there? Is that right? Ive always been more concerned with low end more than top end....only do light to light racing around here.....it's all about coming off the line?

Actually the turbo will give you a lot more low end torque than the supercharger because it works off of load and not belt speed. I would go with the turbo as it makes more power and more torque. The only downside is it is a little more complicated to install.

89sleeper - depends on the type of supercharger. Positive displacement units (like a KB) build boost at MUCH lower rpm.

Where the turbo builds it's boost is gonna be a function of how it's sized. If you want peak torque at 1800 rpm, it's available, but you're not gonna be making peak HP at 6000 with that turbo set up. The opposite is true also. The way around it is with a twin turbo set up where one is sized small for quick spool up/bottom end torque, and one is sized large for top end HP. Of course a set up like that is VERY expensive.

"Many STOCK BLOCK turbo mustangs are making well over 500rwhp with nothing more then a turbo kit, 10-12psi, and 42 lb injectors." Most stock blocks eventually split right down the middle at those power levels too -- it's just a matter of time. If you're serious about 500+ HP and you want the bits to last, you need a stronger block a la Dart.

Lastly, with either set up, to make them work really well, you should count on some tuning mechanism - chip, twEECer, etc. When you start forcing boost and extremely flow on the motor, you pretty quickly get outside the realm of what the stock ecu was designed to do.

thanks, yeah ive heard about doing that with twin turbos, where one is for high end and one for low end, well i was looking for a little of low end power for 1/4 mile runs against some rice burners on the street, but i figured if i get some 3.73s w/ turbo i wouldnt have much of problem off the line, also would like to know a little bit more indepth with max/ recommended boost without hurting engine/ AOD transmission lol wait its already hurting it stock... mmm i can pretty much do all that stuff myself at one of my friends auto shop.....

so all in all what would u recommend for a turbo or supercharger which can withstand up to around 700hp and is the best bang for my buck, dont need something cheap that will not work after while....thanks all
