What, other than the stock cam, would be a good cam for a turbo. almost stock motor, heads may be ported this weekend otherwise stock, trick flow intake, soon to be 5-speed, 3:73 out back w/ nitto drag radials.

Any thoughts

different mustang than in the sig.

with a cam i believe you can get away without having as much lift....but need to focus more on the duration and lobe seperation

Blower cams typically work well with turbos if you're only working with an off-the-shelf unit. More lift and not much overlap.

The factory 5.0 cam is an excellent cam for boost!

The guys at turbomustangs.com told me that they like the F cam, just because it's exhaust crazy.

Certainly not an expert, but do watch out for too much overlap. A little extra duration in exhaust side can't hurt, seeing how turbos are drivin by the exhaust. I'm probably gonna get rid of my TF stage 1 and get a custom cam someday. Had the trick flow cam in back when I was naturally aspirated, just left it in with turbo kit.

Not sure about the cam, but you should look into some higher gears. 3.27s are very popular with turbo cars. This will put more load on the engine helping the turbo spool.

The F cam does indeed work very well with turbos. A guy on Turbomustangs.com made 1177rwhp with a 306, TF stage 3 high ports, blow through carb, F cam and T76/88 hybrid turbo. Nothing exotic.

The lower you get your exhaust pressure, the less special your cam has to be. If you can get your exhaust between the heads and turbo down to your boost pressure, any Naturally aspirated cam will be the one you want. This, obviously, is the way to make most power. If you can get to the theoretical perfect 1:1 pressures, you are making your power 100% free from the heat of exhaust, losing nothing to backpressure. Thats why the F cam works so well when you can get that ratio low (realistically, the best youll do without alot of design and test work is 1.5:1 or 2:1)

stock block + turbo = stock cam + 1.7RR
Stronger block + turbo = F cam

Stock block + stock cam + turbo = two-piece block.

comp cams xe-274-hr, most any normal cam will work with a properly designed turo a/r and compressor size, with a properly designed system under boost the exhaust to intake pressure ratio should be very close to 1:1, so in essence it will be seeing atmospheric conditions, only a lot more of it
