Turn signal and blower motor intermittently working.

I've had this problem over the winter. It seems that when it's really cold, the turn signals and A/C blower motor don't work.

My buddy says it might be something to do with the ignition system in the steering column.

Mostly it doesn't work since it has been unusually cold here in Texas. But the few warm days we had they did work. I haven't noticed anything else not working at the time.

Today it worked even when it was cold, but for a few minutes.

I have a 91 2.3 NA Automatic

Any thoughts on this?

My wife's car, 02 Madza 626. I know this is a mustang forum, but I'm hopeing to get ideas before taking it to the shop.

It vibrates really hard at speeds above 55MPh. As far as I know, the tires don't have bald spots, air pressure is fine, it doesn't shake the steering wheel or the car when braking like it would with warped rotors. I checked the lug nuts (you never know).

I'm out of ideas and am going to take it to the shop tomorrow as it keeps getting worse. It used to shake at 75MPh and above.

Your buddy is right. The ignition switch down on the steering column is worn. Not the key switch up by the wheel, but the actual electrical switch assembly mounted on the column down around the dash.

On the wife's car, check the shocks and struts. They can cause the problem you're describing if all else seems okay. The tires will usually give some sign of this if the problem goes without checking. The tread will wear funny, not necessarily creating bald spots, but scalloping. If it wobbled at low speeds, I'd say get it up in the air and spin each wheel by hand and watch the tread. If the cords in the tire start separating, it'll make the tread shift. It'll look like the wheel is bent in mild cases, and in severe cases it'll be easy to spot as the tread will have a noticeable issue.

Thank you for the response.

My Mazda had to have the CV joints and both front tires replaced and an alignment. All that didn't come very cheep. You were dead on with the tires. :nice:

So my Mustang issue will have to wait till next month. :(

To get by until you replace the switch, when the blower and signals don't work, gently turn the ignition key backwards until it meets a little resistance. That typically puts the ignition switch slider back in the right place and everything works. I did it for over a year with mine before I parked it for the turbo project.
