Turn Signal Switch swap questions

My old '65 turn signal switch is getting kind of sloppy and has a mind of its own sometimes. Also back in '65 the switches were either OFF, LEFT or RIGHT.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone upgraded to a newer type switch assembly that has modern features such as intermediate positions to "signal to pass", Hazard switch, Headlight Dimmer or Cruise control (did Ford ever put them on the stalk)?

2. What years were these features incorporated?

3. What fits in my '65 column?

4. I have a '68 "collapsible column” that I plan to install someday. How similar are they to the ’65 in size and function?

I can only help with #4. The steering boxes are completely different. The 65 box has a steering shaft connected to it that the steering wheel actually attaches directly to the steering box. The 68 column has a steering shaft as a part of the column and a stub shaft on the box. You need a later model box to use the 68 column. I don't know if it is a direct bolt in, but I'm sure someone can help with the swap.

Thanks for the reply

I knew about the shaft thing. I was going to replace the column when I replace the box anyway. (or possibly a R&P)

I was more interested in the differences as far as the signal switch and what would fit.
