Turning a Twin turbo into a single!??

I know this question is kinda weird. But its kinda important to me.

HP twin Turbo sells a whole kit or Only the Turbocharger if you want.
Lets say i buy 2 Turbochargers from a twin turbo set up, without the kit (pipes, fuel pump..etc..).
and I design or buy 2 kit seperatly from a different place (withought the turbochargers). Can i use each turbo from HP with the new kit i bought on one car. Meaning 2 cars each with a single turbo kit ???
is that possible???

i think if you were to figure out a way to fab up the hardware to make this work you would be stuck with 2 really small turbos... which wouldnt be as effective as youd like.

Usually youd go with 2 small turbos for great power and quick spool, or one Large turbo for a slow spool and insane power..

Anythings possible - provided you have the $$$$$$'s.

Ford never made a turbo Mustang (production) so its all made up, but even these after market companies will have spent a fair few pennies on R&D. So why shun that and try and make your own.

If it looks like a cheap option, then it will have drawbacks - they always do.

Sadly Performance Costs Money.

Ford had dropped the turbo in 1980 but brought it back for one more go in 83, 84, and 85. The turbo was again retired in 1985.

where they V8's?

I thought the only turbo's where with 4 cylinder engines. Might be wrong though.

However none of those years used the 4.6 modular engine which is what I was reffering too, so any previous attempts will have little or no bearing on turbocharging these engines.

I have no idea what you are trying to say man. If you want a single turbo kit buy it but a twin turbos will always be more efficient over a single turbo kit on a V style engine.

yeah I wasn't really sure either.

To me it sounded like he and mate wanted to buy a twin turbo kit, then make up some mounting bits to convert to single turbo thus each would have a turbo for their own car.

I might be wrong of course, but thats what I made of it.

They were the svo's which were 4cyl's

He wants to buy two turbos that belong to a twin kit...however he wants to use each turbo in a seperate car and fabricate the parts for each car.

However I wouldnt recomend this, as a turbo from a twin kit is made to have a companion, if going with a single turbo on a car, you would most likely need a larger turbo.

Thats true. HP do over 60mm turbos and 67mm , are those not big enough to instal as singles !??

My bad 300, I didn't know which cars you were referring to- yes the turbos were 4cyls. Ford didn't make any 8cyl turbo powered cars.
Newbie- I would not split the turbo kit. Either but a TT for the stang and make a crapload of power, or buy a single kit designed for the stang. The TT kit is meant to work as just that- a twin turbo setup.

Why not just buy the turbos from the manufacturer instead of trying to get it from a vendor? It seems like you could get one cheaper from them than you could from someone who is trying to make money on a product they had to buy in the first place.

well I dont mean to use it as a single for my GT or any mustang. I meant use it as a single for a different car , like a V6 import car or smaller cars. isnt 60 and 67mm big enough to run as a single for those applications ??

I think that sounds a little big. I thought the ones for 4cyl/6s were smaller sized turbos. If you have a larger turbo, you'll make good power but it will take longer to spool up.

Sounds like a major headache if you ask me. I hope those turbo companies have gotten better on the time it takes for you to recieve your kit.

the biggest question would be WHY?

You can probably buy the bits you need cheaper else if its not for a Mustang. A kit that has been designed and tested for Mustangs will give you zero help for other applications.

If the engine you are wanting to turbo charge is capable then there is probably already some one out there who has. However if your going to voyage into uncharted teritory expect a few things to go wrong.

BTW what engines did you have in mind.

toyota landcruiser
honda civics
4X4 nissan petrol 4.8

such as those applications. No need to ask why
