Tweecer question

I have a question regarding the Tweecer and hope you guys can help me.

I'm going to be attending Universal Technical Institute in Orlando this fall and I will have a DynoJet on campus available for my use. That being said, would I be alright going with the base Tweecer since I would have the Dynojet to measure the A/F ratio and so forth? That would allow me to save money (could always upgrade to the RT later after school) and still get my car tuned.

What do you guys think?

I myself, can't see a reason to try and tune with just the base unit.

Remember, tuning is WAY more than WOT or, what you simulate on a dyno.

You just give up too many different abilities datalogging affords you when you try and Tweecer tune without the RT.

The RT gives you the ability to tune ... WITH hard data ... on the street thus duplicating actual driving conditions. You can't even do that when you go to the dyno.

One of the most valuable benefits of Tweecer tuning is you get access to most things needed to tune for stock like drivability. Datalogging is used here to baseline and then verify your progress all along the way to your final tune.

With no data, I don't know how you would know when you got stuff like it needs to be

I guess you might could get close enough to make things good enough for some improvement

Well damn Grady, I was hoping I'd be able to save some money and go with the base unit for awhile.

I'd say if your gonna go that route don't skimp and get the RT, I think you'll be thankfull later on. With that said, I have a tweecer rt for sale if you are interested, pm me.

Just a couple more things for you to consider

Sometimes when doing things, I've found its best to be a bit more patient and have the money to do it like it needs to be done. IMHO, this is one of those times.

I've tried numerous times, to give peeps an idea about how it is to Tweecer tune. Here is different way to look at it ... maybe this can show why I feel datalogging is so important.

If you choose to self tune using the Tweecer .................

You learn about how the pcm does its thing along the way to learning about how your car responds to your tuning changes.

Without the data you can obtain from datalogging, you just don't have all the piecies of the puzzle to eventually see the big picture.

Tuning with the base unit, you can't even see ANY part of the puzzle as you learn

Remember this ... You are teaching yourself to self tune

In your attempt to put the self tuning puzzle together, you need to be able to look at the picture ............ from time to time

I second it for all of Grady's reasons...

I guess my main argument for the R/T is that it truly exploits every advantage of fuel injection. You can literally nail a perfect tune down to the single RPM. Being able to analyze a datalog is invaluable for both driveability and WOT blast tuning.

How are you gonna dyno tune for driving your girl to the movies? You ain't driving WOT the whole way, thats for damn sure. Unless she's into that, in which case I wanna meet her sister.

Plus my girl gets all upset when i want to work on the car and drink beers and not go shopping or whatever it is that she likes to do... so when I use the RT to datalog, I give her the laptop to hold and strap her in. I tell her that its really important that she monitors everything and "include her in my life."

For that reason alone its worth the extra couple bucks.

If you are at all logical, these things will drive you crazy. I have heard people talk about a 12 step program for tuners. Well if you are posting on this board you need to attend

If you are passionate at all about your car you will find that you want to be dataloggin all the time, to find out what that little blip is. I am even considering putting a Carputer in the pony with a touch screen lcd.

But I will have to agree with everyone here. I have spent more than the wife wanted. I have tried to do things on a hard budget and got screwed cause I went cheap. Save the money spend the time and do it right the first time.

The last peiece of advice I can give you is listen to the pro's on this site, and dfilter out the ones that are just shotgunning it. Logic rules.

Tweecer Rt and a good wideband. Without them you are doomed..... yes you can hack at it and you may get luck.... but then again you may get unlucky and blow your motor. u
