I'm a new owner of a 65 fastback K code with a couple questions,

My car has chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. The original window sticker does not show a "dress up kit". Were the chome covers and air clearner standard or dealer installed option?

Secondly, my car has an aftermarket aluminum hi rise manifold and holley carb. I'd like to replace them with a stock manifold and carb. How can I identify a stock manifold and stock carb?

I think the previous owner replaced the stock valve covers and air cleaner with the chrome ones when he installed the hi-rise intake.

As far as identifying the correct parts, the best way would be to look up the Fomoco part numbers for those parts for the '65 289 V8.

BTW.......Welcome to Stangnet and.....

The chrome valve covers and air cleaner were standard on the K Mustangs. The intake is a standard 4 bbl iron intake used on the A code cars, The carb however is unique to the K Mustang - a 600 cfm Autolite 4100 with a manual choke and other unique features. These are rare, hard to find and very expensive when you do find one. If you have not already, visit 289 High Performance Mustang - HiPo Mustang Home which is the home of everything K code. Great members that are well versed in the K code world

If you do not already have one you will definitley want to get a copy of Tony Gregory's book on the K code mustang. It is the bible on these cars and covers them in work and photos in great detail. It is availiable throught the HiPo Mustang web site.
