If it helps, the typhoon intake is a copy of an Edelbrock Performer RPM (the original, not the RPM II).

On a stock 302, I switched to a Performer RPM (technically too big for my engine, but it was cheap) and an Accufab 70mm (Fox TB setup), my car dropped 3 tenths in the quarter mile and picked up 3 mph.

Its a copy of the old rpm like said above... with some working over it can flow just as well as the manifold its imitating

POS? What does that make the stock intake manifold... seriously, if your on a budget it does the job for less $$$.

The power gains depend on the combo...If you slap in on a stock engine, you'll curse yourself.

I put mine on the SAME TIME as the Vortech, so I personally could not tell you.

I would not use that one if your upgrades are short of new heads and cam.

RC, how do you figure?

After putting the Performer RPM on my car, I picked up the performance I mentioned above at the track and I've even seen an increase in my fuel economy (when I'm driving nice ).

I haven't really noticed any driveablility issues. Although a standard Performer might have given me more for the same combo.

i think the popular opinion (backed up by dyno reports) is that this type of intake shifts the power to the upper rpm range and one loses torque in the lower rpm range.

Since the runners are a bit shorter, it should move the power band up as opposed to the regular intake as others have already have said.

I run one and I think the curves show it helps on the high end.

My low end is helped by the cam & lt's so its my thinking those two items kinda counter effect its natural low end tendencies ... for my combo ... that is.

What the 2 above said...just mainly the power band.. Our cars our great with the good tq and gears out of the hole...You lose a little of that with the RPM/typhoon and stock heads and cam.

so then basically i should probably wait untill i have a good combo, to use with it, otherwise it might just be a waste of my time for now.. all the car has done right now, is just an o/r h pipe, cai, and mufflers

you can do it, but if you look at a stock dyno graph for a 94-95 gt, the powerband starts to fall off around 4800-5000rpm's. the performer rpm or typhoon shifts the powerband to the higher end of the rpm range where the heads run out of steam. the bottom line is, it will make a difference, but the full potential of the intake wont be seen until you swap out the heads at the very least. i would base the decision now on what your longer term pkans for the car are. if heads arent on the list, i would just go with a cobra intake if you are on a budget, or a performer if you can spend the extra cash. if your plans include heads and you just want the intake now, the typhoon would be the way to go.

I don't disagree with the shift of the power curve, just that you had mentioned "cursing youself" putting it on a stock engine. I didn't think of it as a curse, maybe just a light hex.

I'd say search around for a used performer intake and go with that. your car will feel more powerful than with the typhoon, and it will be more fun to drive around the street. Then when you're ready to do a complete H/C/I, step up to the RPMII...it blows the RPM (and typhoon for that matter) away in both the low end and the high end.

Just because something is made in China doesn't make it a POS. You'd be surprised at some of the standards they have set for TQM (total quality management). This is the same rhetoric that was used in the 50s with regard to Japanese products...and look where they are now.

take it for what it's worth...

I mean cursing, like swearing or cussing!..Only because you spent the money and didnt get the potential.

HERE'S WHAT SOME DO, and YOU too can do:

Get the Performer intake with a fairly stock car, do some mods...When you are ready, you can buy just the upper RPM, it fits on the same lower intake.
