u.d pulleys

hey guys i just installed these pulleys a few hours ago, and now the car wants to die, the battery voltage seems to be going down, the thing is the alt. pulley didnt fit right so i had to shim it down a little. Could this be the problem, i do have an extra BBK alt. pulley should i use this one instead maybe the alt. is slipping because this one never fit right?? thanks guys!

I didn't go with the pulleys for that reason.....I've heard "some" people have no problems but the people I've seen with them have the "fluctuating" needle.....These guys put their stock pulley back on the alt....and used the remaining two.......good luck.....

I have a little proble with that, but its only dies once. Id look into an over drive pulley for the alt.

alright well the BBK one i had one my 4.6 but it looks like i could use it on the 5.0 with maybe a washer in there... i never had a problem on the 4.6 with this, i guess ill try that on there, and just wondering before i start a new thread, which way do i turn the distributor if i want to advance the timing??

If you use the alt. pulley you will always have a charging problem. I have talked to soem people who have had cooling problems with the water pump pulley. On my fox car i never had a problem i have yet to install any on my 94 cobra

Welcome to the world of U/D pulleys...

I have the fluctuating needle, big time...

However when my battery was on the way out I could jump start the car and it would stay running, So I know it is at least charging the car at idle...

Is it ok to run just the 2 pulleys without using the one for the alt? Or is there a reason all 3 should be used at one time.

i think its fine, to use just like 1 or 2 out of the 3, on my 97 gt i had, i only had the alt. pulley on... not because i was having problems with the others, just because im lazy, haha.. i never had a problem with it, now with the bbk alt. pulley on i have only had the car stall once due to the needle getting a little low... just another question, would an optima battery fix this problem since there is more cca?? or would u just have the buy a stronger alt.? thanks guys!

i run underdrives on my stang.i also had a problem with charging so i installed the factory alt. pulley and reset idle to 850 rpm's at idle and have had no problems since....its fine to run the underdrive crank and waterpump pulleys with the factory alt. pulley in fact alot of people do and there is no need to change belts the stock size belt will fit with this combo....
