UM, YES OUR CARS CAN DO 150+

I've "heard" that our speedos can be off as much as 20mph at 150, i.e. you're only doing 130 when the speedo says 150. Also heard that they start getting out of whack like around 90 or so and from there it is moreinaccurate. Maybe 20mph off is a stretch, but 10 to 15 mph off is easily acceptable.

Not saying that anyone didn't go a particular speed, just that I agree that the speedo cannot be trusted at all at high speeeds.

Car & Driver did the 0-150-0 tests and commented on several of the cars about how off the speedos were. None of them were real bad, but a couple cars "appeared" to be going 160, when in reality they were just hitting the 150 mark. Granted, magazines are not usually the optimum place for facts and what not, but it is a fact that when magazines, manufacturers, or anyone else wants to know the "actual" speed of a vehicle in speed tests, you always see a lot of equipment strapped to the car in order to get accurate measurements (or laser guns, etc.).

Sorry so long...........I'm bored at work right now and the fingers won't stop typing........ :) No offense to anyone.

That's all internet heresay and speculation. Not flaming you at all though, just don't want to see the internet go far astray. In most cases your car is not going t obe 20mph off on the spedo. If it says you are doing 150mph you are probably real close. Now as to doing 150mph..that is ir-responsible especially with a passenger in the car who may or may not have a family or kids or even a dog that is home relying on him/her. Not to say no one has done it but it better be far and few times in between. Especially on a public rd

saying that speeding etc. is irressponsible and unsafe yada yada is beating a dead horse:dead:. everyone that does illegal things knows its "wrong", but no matter how much anyone says, it will not change anything. same goes for drugs, underage drinking, etc. its pointless to argue anymore.

Speedo accuracy is a pure math function of % error either over or under. When checking by GPS I have found most factory speedos read on the high side (i.e. faster than actual speed). For example if it's off 10% on the high side then at 30 MPH on the speedo that's actually 27.3 MPH, but at 150 MPH 10% off is actually 136.4 MPH. Now if it's off 10% the other way then 30 MPH on the speedo = 33 MPH & 150 MPH = 165 actual MPH.

Most times they are off 2-3% high from the factory, but if you've changed gears or tire diameter it will throw your speedo off by whatever % change you did on top of the factory error.

Speedos, especially with aftermarket speedo gears, are off by percentages. Around town the thing can be pretty decent, but run it up to the end of the spectrum................

Back in the day, we'd use a reliable tach to extrapolate speeds.

And FWIW, you folks are nuts. :D

In perspective to this forum and rules it is not beating a horse because it is not supported at all. Especially showing a clip of the spedo and admitting to doing it on a public freeway. In some cases, folks that care and at least say something is better than not saying anything. Someone might be detered or realize that doing that is a little crazy.

Take another guy on here that just got his nice rod taken away. I bet he wished someone might have said something to him. The cops will think you are ##$%ing out of you mind and lock you up and take you license away. I would say that is pretty serious. I am no saint believe me but after belonging to this forum and getting pulled over, I give it a 2nd thought too. I am suprised this thread was not locked when it started honestly. :lock:

p.s. On the 2.73, I should have said it would not top out in 5th but rather 4th. Depending on the gear ratio mainly.

Nicely said i couldn't agree with you more.

I believe its cool what ever you do on your own time but not on a public road. At those speeds you are just reckless and i kinda hope you get pulled over for put your life and others in your your own hands.

They do take the **** pretty seriously if you were to get pulled over, take my work on it 92 in a 45, yes I know dumb move, 3 months suspended license, $650+ in fines and court costs, etc, 10 days suspended jail time, 1 year probation. Not to say those crazy enought to do 150+ on the roads arent gonna run from the police at the first sign of them, but that is just multiply the risk, quick movements, higher speeds, pushing hte car to the limits, not to mention if you get caught after that... felony... BUT TO EACH THIER OWN, Also, if I ever see anyone endangering me or my family on the roads you better not let me catch you later on. Do it when NO ONE is anywhere in sight, No racing in town, no houses on the roads you do it on, etc.

One final statement I'm a younger member on this forum I'm only 19 years old. I feel you are giving us younger mustang owners a bad name by doing high speed runs... And if your an older guy your not a good influence for us younger guys... So keep high speed runs and street racing out of the forums.

So I have to ask...where was the stretch of road that was open enough to ride it that hard. I hit about 120 in my old (2005) plow truck on 84 between M'town and Newburgh over the summer, but didn't want to push it much faster b/c of cops.
Teconic is too twisty and narrow and 87 is way to dangerous...
If I had to guess, 84 into CT? ?
And to beat a dead horse even further... "what you did young man was a dangerous act that could endanger the lives of countless civilians. You should be ashamed of your display of power, balls and sheer stupidity." But it makes for a good thread and pic : )

ok now to address this...

if i am a tool, then i am a hammer. and people like you are the nails that i hit:) .

if you knew how to read, then you would have seen that right above the picture there is a caption.

also, i did not take my hand off the wheel. my freind took the picture. i am often a passenger in his car for experiences like that too. its somthing we both enjoy and nothing will ever change that.

Adam, i think you are a little to sesame street for this board.

You give our hobby a bad name. Take that crap to the track. Did you hit your flashers when you drove by him too? I used to think this crap was cool, then I saw a kid get cut out of his car with the jaws of life. I work at a power company and a utility pole of ours (50 class 2 for anyone else in the field who knows how big a pole that is) was literally halved by a 19 year old in a turbo eclipse. It's going to be tough for him to drive a stick again; at age 19 he lost both his legs beneath the knees and was touch and go for days.

He also almost killed a fireman who was trying to pull him out while there were 13800 volt wires arcing all around his car. I got called in to help dump the lines.

I guess seeing someone close to you own age (I'm 23) get pulled out with whats left of his legs trailing behind him makes you see things differently. And for what? Some ****ty cell phone picture?

If a 16 year old kid that just got his license sees this thread, and reads the whole thing and decides that maybe he shouldn't do 150 in his stang, then I'll be sesame street all day long. You can stay hammered.

:lock:

well.....I'm pretty sure nothing we can say will get through to you...but.....when you do this please do it by yourself AWAY from ANYTHING.

I used to think I was the ****nit going over 100......til I was with a friend going on the highway around 70 mph and some dumbass cut us off going about 120+ and hit the front of the car which caused us to hit a wall....the guy got away somehow.

friend ended up dying in the hospital and I somehow came out with minor scrapes...

Just think twice before you do something....all it takes is one small bump in the road going that fast....and if you're on a back road...chances are they're bumps

No street racing threads allowed. You all know this. Also, I feel that this thread is headed down the wrong road with some of the comments that have been made. This is obviously a touchy subject with some and understandably so. So before it gets out of hand its getting locked. :)
