Hello,

I have a '68 fastback that I would like to re-do the underdash harness in due to age, splicing, reliability, etc.

I would prefer to use a reproduction harness instead of one of the Painless/EZ harnesses simply because I don't want to have to deal with the headaches of mystery wires and splicing old ends onto new wire. The only additional items I plan on running from the harness are my Sony CD player and a couple of Autometer gauges, so I do not anticipate much of an added load on the system.

A couple of questions:

1. Could someone recommend one of the Mustang parts suppliers for this type of harness? Are some harnesses better than others or are they all made by the same manufacturer in the end?

2. I have only been able to locate '67 harnesses at a couple of the suppliers. Would the '67 harness work with my '68? I do not have tach, a/c or GT/fog lights on my car. I could replace the steering column harness and gauges harness at the same time.

I know these issues have been raised a million times before, but I couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for in the archives.

Thanks for your help guys,

Kelton

Well you wont find a repro harness for a 68 cause nobody makes one.The 67 harness has different plugs on it.There are good used harneses on ebay from time to time.Just make sure there is a good pic of it and make sure it hasnt been spliced to hell and back.Every other harness for the 68 is repopped.Oh, except for the gauge harness. If you plan to add more accessories I would come off the battery side of the solenoid with an aux. fuse block.Just make sure your alt. can handle it.I added a 105 a upgrade kit to my stock alt. for about 40 bucks.
