Underdrive Pulley Install Unsuccessful?????

I tried to install my underive pulleys today I couldn't get any of the stock pulley bolts off. The Alternator pulley needs an impact wrench now I know that but does the crankshaft pulley need it also? Every time I would turn the wrench for the crank pulley bolt, the whole pulley would turn like I was turning the crankshaft. I need help cause I don't want to pay somebody to put the damn things on. So how the hell do I get the crank pulley off?

Dont waste your time on pullies, they are a joke. You might get 5hp and you could get:
Dimming head lights, higher engine temps., a broken crank bolt, a balancer pulley that is not balanced to your crank. I sold mine two weeks after I bought them;my lights would dimm at stops.

Your factory balancer pulley will balance your engine (vibration) better if you go with a major power adder later on.

But you will find a lot of people who,already have the pullies on their cars, disagree with me.

I disagree...I've had mine since ASP (1998) developed them...through thick and thin, I've never had charging/cooling problems...in fact, slowing the fluid down at high RPMS actually helps reduce foaming which causes temp surges. A proven mod that's been used for many YEARS...no flame intended

I have to admit when I installed mine I went out and bought the biggest impact wrench I could find,...it worked. I use that wrench a lot now to loosen other large fasteners. I like you tried everything to get that big crankshaft bolt out!

I sold mine before I even installed them. They are a bitch to install though, even harder with the autos. Me and my friend installed them on his 01 gt (5 speed). He says he liked them, but didnt notice a big gain.

The crank pulley on the 4.6's isn't a balancer, it's a dampner as our engines are internally balanced. Unless you buy a really fubar set of pulleys then vibration shouldn't be a problem. Steeda pulleys come with an SFI approved dampner. Most of the piggyback pulleys work well to but they interfere with the use of timing adjusters(some of them). Underdrives are a proven power adder going way back. The gains seen on a 4.6 won't be as big as say a 5.o or the 3.8 is due to the fact that the factory pulleys are designed to be quite effecient from the factory. I put pullies on my buddy's 98GT and it was a pretty easy install and he's has zero problems with charging and heating-and we are in Texas where it's already in the high 90's.

Oh yeah, use some PB Blaster on the bolts and let it soak...
