I have an '86 gt convertible I believe that at some point in its life it had what I think is a '79 engine with lesser hp and carb. I'm wanting to get it close to stock or maybe a little extra horse than what it had originally. I'm new to mustangs and don't know much so anything helps.

Hmm that car should be fuel injected. Can you post some pictures so we can see what you have?

It looks like they took everything from the '79 and transplanted it. Is your '86 an original 4- or 6-cylinder car?

That's a CFI setup. It wasn't around in 1986 and not in 1979 either. CFI engines were originally in 84-85 mustang 5.0 AODs

You can determine the origins of the car by deciding the VIN.

Makes me think that the car is a '85 not '86.

If its AUTO that would give further evidence.

Answer is on the VIN plate on the dashboard

a lot of hackery going on there
If you are going to upgrade no sense in keeping E6 heads.
Just throw an Explorer or Mouintaineer 5.0 in there

It is an '86 and it was a v8 however I just found out one of the previous owners took out its original engine for another vehicle then someone put in this one which is why it has the CFI on it

I agree with the explorer engine idea.
I'd also seek out the parts to make it fuel injection again.
IMO, all the beauty of an 86 is that you get the 4 eyes and the EFI.
Back in the day I was no fan of the 86 or any 4 eye, but my tastes have evolved into seeing how great one really is.
You remove the EFI and you ruin the entire car.

What parts would I need for the swap besides the engine itself?
