Working on an 83 Mustang GT here with the factory Holley four barrel.

I noticed it doesn't have idle mixture screws in the conventional location (on each side of the primary metering block).

I was wondering if a metering block from a standard universal 600cfm Holley can be slipped into place as a direct replacement for the stock one without other carb mods?

Thanks for any input you may have!

No, it cannot.

The idle mixture is in the baseplate for the 4180C. They are reverse of a "regular" 4160 in that you screw out to lean. If not done already, you need to drill out the caps that cover the screws.

Thanks...the carb suddenly has no idle circuit...runs great at 2000rpm or more, but won't run at all under that. The car is a major terd that sits for months and years and then is expected to run like a new car...and I always get the job of trying to patch it up!

I'm gonna recommend a new Edelbrock 500cfm carb!
