Hey guys I have been seriously thinking lately that I wanna step-up to a T-Trim.
I'm currently running a S-Trim (for 3years+) and spinning the sucker for all it's worth. I'd like to boost 15lbs...but efficently. With my head/intake port work I will have to overspin the S-Trim to make that kind of boost.
The main thing is the CFM...the S-Trim is 1000cfm with a max of like 20psi and the T-Trim is 1200cfm with a max of 26psi. Another big one is the S max impeller speed is 50,000 where the T is 55,000.
With the new pullies I bought it would put me in the 53,000 range (I know it's not 100% accurate due to belt slippage but still) and I really don't wanna blow HOT air in my motor since that'd be way outta the efficientcy range.
And yes I'm still power hungry..so that'd maybe help that as well.
Vortech has a upgrade program I was looking into...take my blower and credit me towards the T.
My setup is already good to go for a blower..so no "GET A TURBO"..I wish. And all the bracketts etc. work for the S to T swap.
I'm just thinking with the same pullies, it would make more power due to the CFM, and I wouldn't be over spinning it..and I'd have room to grow.

ITs good and all but there is a point your going to have to spend some serious money in a fuel system upgrade if you haven't already. Not to mention if your running 42's you will have to spend some big bucks for some 50's or 55's or some real big money into a high impediance driver and injectors. Also What block are you using?

I am in the same boat as you... Except i don't want to find out exactly what the limit is.

Why not upgrade heads cam ect.. Shouldn't you get a mondo bypass unit and stuff?

The T-Trim will be more efficient than the S-Trim without a doubt.

it will flow the CFM's with less trouble.

To upgrade the heads/cam would be way more costly than upgrading head units...plus my heads just got worked so they aren't going anywhere for awhile.
The main thing is I don't wanna push the S so hard...where as with the same pullies on the T the blower wouldn't be working as hard..hence not out of it's effiencienty range. I think on 10-12#'s with a T my fuel system would still be WAY good, but I'd make way more power since the CFM rating is so much more. Plus I'd be barely spinning the T so the Intake temps would be drastically lower...hence more timing...hence even more power.

I'm just starting to think if I spin the S so hard it will obviously shorten it's lifespan...and overspinning just blows hotter air.

Their's nothing in concrete..just wanting opinions...heck I still haven't ran my car since the new head work, Fox Conversion, and 1 3/4 LT's..lol

Chris, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the T trim have a different impeller design making it more of a "high rpm" blower? Meaning, where an S trim might make 3lbs at 3500, a T trim might make 1 or so. I may be way off with my exmple... but that's all it is, an example. I understand that ultimately it is based on blower speed, but I know the design of the impeller has to be concidered here as well. Have you spoken with Vortech to see what they say? It'd be interesting to hear their thoughts.

Aren't there some compressor maps we could look at to figure out which unit would be best?

Yeahloh...sorry man I never did post the pics of it on the car. I'll just email them to you, I sent the discharge back to X2C cause I trimmed it a lil short and they are hooking me up with a custom discharge..I just mailed it off so i will be a week or two untill I get the pics.
But it was def. a increase in boost/power and cleans the bay up nicely. Still no dyno #'s or track times. My hanging idle is also gone, which I belive to be from the Accufab Fox TB. I do reccomend the kit.

Killer
The T is about as big as I'd go since I drive it so much on the street. It is still a street friendly blower, but yes the S makes more low-end boost. Although with my car I'm not to worried about that..I make a good amount of tq down low with the 331, and my boost seems almost instant with the 3.73's. that combined with the new discharge setup, I see boost purty quick..it pretty much pegs 10psi as soon as I stomp it. As for Vortech I talked with a tech rep yesterday and they think the T would be great on my car, they even said my fuel system would be fine. I could also run a cog setup if I wanted! Fitment and all that isn't a issue, and they strongly agree that my gains would be signifigant (sp*)

As for the compressor maps I've looked at those as well..and I swear thats written in Chinese..lol I don't understand it at all!

Did you read the article in this Sept. issue of MM&FF? It shows like exactly what you are talking about(S-trim to T-trim upgrade), only on a 4.6 2V. They say the same things in there that you are saying. Lower intake temps, impeller speed etc... I say go for it.

EDIT: The name of the article is Mods for Mods part 4, page 96

why dont you try seeing if you can sell the s-trim privately and get more money for it and then use that to get your T maybe even looking for just the headunit from ebay or one of the stang classifieds

It's easy. You have airflow on the x-axis, boost on the Y-axis. You look up your boost and airflow then you can read the rpm and efficiency from there. The t-trim map is skewed up and to the right of the S trim so it's efficiency lies more within the higher airflow/boost area.

To find the boost, just multiply the pressure ratio by 14.7 then subtract 14.7 for boost in PSI

I made a little spreadsheet for selecting turbos using the compressor maps if anyone wants to check it out. The calcs are mostly idealized but it's still usefull.

Chris, here is my take. It CAN'T be good to overspin the S-Trim obviously. So if the T-Trim is going to be more efficient then its probably the way to go. IDK how much it costs, and if you can just swap head units or not, but i think its probably the way to go.
