Upgrading to cobra guage cluster, where is the memory for mileage stored?

Does anyone know if the actual mileage of my car will be erased if I upgrade to a new cobra white guage cluster or is the memory retained somewhere else? I would prefer to keep my actual reading.

I think that the odometer is married to the circuit board. Usually when you change the instr. cluster, you retain your original board ie. keeping your original mileage. The problem I ran into was trying to calibrate the speedo. Has anyone done this?

Not trying to be a smart ass here but why not buy the gauge face that are white like the Cobra's. I bought some off ebay for about $25 total, and they change colors.

If the circuit board is married to the original speedo than it would stay with the cluster, tach speedo and all other gauges are on complete unit---- the reason I am switching complete cluster is picked one up on ebay for around $75 and thought it would be alot easier than switching faces and having to recalibrate the gauges. not to mention it has that cool little decal that says SVT on it it kinda completes my 2K cobra R replica.

For instance, when you get an instr. cluster from Autometer, you don't get the circuit board.

The "odometer" is a separate, small, self-contained circuit board. It includes the display, the memory of your current miles, and the authentication required by the computer to allow your car to start.

When swapping instrument clusters, you should keep your original "odometer" circuit board, by swapping it from your old cluster to your new cluster.

BTW, what year Cobra? It might not be really compatible. The tachs are different due between the 2v and the 4v engines. The newest ones have a boast gauge. And over the years, the idiot lights along the bottom have changed. Also, even though they look quite similar, it could be a mechanical speedometer or a electronic speedometer, too.
