Hi all, in about 2 weeks i'll be ordering my Trickflow kit and this will be my first time breaking down a 302's top end. My buddy will be helping me (but he's a GM guy) im an Ex-GM guy myself. Anyway I was wondering the following: how do i know what the torque settings will be on say on the intake (Upper/Lower), heads etc? does Trickflow supply you with instructions as how to torque down the bolts? Also my engine seems to be burning oil, could be headgaskets or blown rings. How do i check to see if the cylnder rings are ok? id hate to have to tear it all down again aftere i put it up.

I'll also be throwing on the following mods with the Tricklow kit

BBK 190lph intank fuel pump
accufab 70mm TB
bbk springs
new high flow oil pump (summit)
subframes and new shocks/struts

anything else i should do? id like to upgrade the injectors but im a little strapped right now. that build up is going to put me a little over budget.

Here are the current mods on the car.

off road UPR X-pipe
Shortie Cermaic Headers
Mac Catback
14* timing
UPR CAI
FMR 3.73's

More..

If you install the new fuel pump, you should also install a new adj fuel regulator. (I run 40+psi FP ) New fuel filter,of caurse, and you may have a problem running lean with the stock injectors and mass air meter after cam install.
(I run #24 and 75mm MAF) Due to lifters, the FMS are fine,
partnr:M-6500-R302 Hydraulic roller tappet OEM replacement. Just Me.

Ps, You need the oil fill kit also, TFS, pn 51400800

Trick Flow supplies all the tech stuff you need. When I put in my TW heads I used Comp Pro Magnum RR's and was able to use the stock valve covers after taking out the baffle under the filler neck. I also reused the stock 19# injectors because I still have the stock cam in mine, but if you use the stage 1 cam 24's are definitely necessary or you'll lean out on the top-end big time. A chip or programmer would also be in your best interest to re-map the fuel and ignition curve. Check out Hot Rod this month they have a 5.0 builup with Edelbrock stuff, not the same as Trick Flow kit but a really good article covering what you can expect (they got 388 crankshaft HP!).

The included valve covers do not have a oil filler installed. You have to cut/drill a hole in the valve cover, and install a oil filler kit, for adding oil to the engine.

Nice to have, but it runs fine without it. I install my kit using 75mm MAF calibrated for #24 injectors, adjusted the TPS and 14-17degree of timing.
Runs like a dream,

You don't need a chip or a programmer. Most of the time a chip in a fox makes it run worse than better.

You need a pro m meter, and 24lb injectors. You likely won't get full use of all the power if you don't.

Dumb question but what's the TPS? Is it the Throttle Position Sensor? I went with a Granatelli MAF tuned for 24# Injectors and CAI and i went with FMS 24# Injectors. I also ordered an Accufab 70mm TB with an EGR spacer.

how do i adjust the TPS?

Yes it's the Throttle position sensor, it's on top of the TB. You loosen the screws and twist it left or right to get the correct voltage. Do an internet search, and you can find complete directions on adjusting it. It may be necessary to take a grinder and open up the screw slots to get more adjustment.
BTW, a granitelli meter is just a re badged pro m.
