I replaced both my upper controls arms and spring perches a couple months ago with complete reproduction assemby(frame, balljoint, bushing). Its was perfectly fine for about a month until one day they just decided to start squeaking rediculously loud for no reason.

I loosened the bushings up, about 2 flats on each one and the left arm quit squeaking, and the right arm stopped squeaking until I drove it for a couple miles and it started squeaking really bad again.

I went to loosen the right control up bushings some more, and noticed that the forward bushing appeared to have tightened up by itself while the rear bushing felt about the same. I loosened the front bushing again, this time trying to loosen it further and it wouldnt go any looser then about 3 flats, and it wont loosen up any further.

I felt where the bushing and face of the control arm frame come into contact and felt metal slivers coming off into my finger.

When I got the arms, I checked the bushing and they were not tight, and they moved firmly but freely by hand.

I also used plenty of grease in the shafts before I bolted them in

Anyone else had a problem like this? How can I keep the bushing from tightening up by itself? The squeak if getting pretty loud and Im about to say the hell with it and get some tubular control arms or a coil over kit but would rather fix it.

Forgot to mention, its on a 69 in case you didnt notice my name.

With our Street Ready Upper Arms, I take the shaft kit apart, de-burr and pre-lub the shaft and inside of the nuts. Then I put it back together and adjust the nuts so they are not too tight or too loose and weld on a tab to keep the nuts from moving. It's not hard work but you do need a welder to do it. Give this a try and I bet the squeeking goes away for good.
