I just ordered some more exhaust components for my 03 GT. I already had a 2-chamber flowmaster catback system and I wanted to add a midpipe to get that finalized sound that we all enjoy. I had quite a bit of trouble deciding on an H or an X and I had an off road H on my 88 GT, and I thought I should switch things up a bit and go with an x pipe. The one I ended up getting was a UPR off-road x pipe for around $150. I've heard they make a great midpipe for the 03 cobras so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Do any of you guys know anyone who has a UPR midpipe (mainly their x pipe)? What kind of sound should I expect? Thanks

I agree. The upr x is awesome, easy install, great sound with flowmasters and a great price

Have a UPR X into 2 chambered flows here. Sounds awesome overall. On the highway, I get a tinny rocky sound around 2800rpm, but overall the sound is just sick-mean (in a good way)

The UPR design is basically just two pipes meeting at a single place which is the crossover. No chamber like Bassani. Is the UPR design any good? I have always thought it was, but recently people have told me its a cheap design that yeilds weak power gains.

I noticed more of a power difference from the x pipe then any other bolt on, there was a fairly loud drone on the freeway probably due to the turn downs but with the headers on the drone is completely gone

I had someone frive my car after mine was installed. It sounds alot better outside of the car than inside. I like mine but sometimes the interior noise is weird. Outside it sounds alot louder and meaner!

I agree with you guys, I thought it was just me but I no longer have drone on the highway and it sounds different inside the car. I had my father drive it pass me while I was standing in the driveway and it sounds mean.

What about power gains? Anything noticeable?

Power gains seem to come at higher rpm's

Do they make catted x-pipe's? My main concern is the smell of gas with no cats.

just replace the factory studs and use blue loctite and brass nuts on the new studs you put in the manifolds and you will be happy

To answer your question, yes Magnaflow does and I think BBK and Bassani, but quotes like that make me feel old. My first two cars didn't have cats when they were built and I never once thought, "Man...I ought to get cats put on here to make it smell better." Nothing smells better than the scent of burnt high-test from a non-catted car.

Don't worry, you're not old, he's just strange. I love the gas/exhaust smell and I'm only 24. I drove an 83 5.0 Mercury Capri for a couple years with no cats. Long tube headers that went straight into cheap turbo tube mufflers that cut off right under the front seats. I loved the smell.

I guess I'm not that old (28), but I grew up around a household that drove nice older cars that had either been restored or were low-mileage survivors until the mid-80's when my parents started buying new stuff again. Then when I got my license in '91, I had a '67 Plymouth Belvedere and my second car was a 28k-mile '73 Plymouth Satellite that I built into a Roadrunner clone. I never once gave any thought to how the cars smelled.

BTW, I currently have the UPR X-pipe on my car and the fit, finish, and sound is fantastic. Its coming off the car in a couple weeks to make way for a set of Mac LT's and a Trubendz o/r X-pipe.

I'm not strange, just asking a question. I've never driven a car w/o cats before, and I've heard of people complaining about the gas smell. Just because I'm asking a question on something I don't know doesn't make me "strange."

I'm just kidding about the "strange" thing man, don't take any offense from it.

sometimes when your sitting in traffic at a light or something you look in your rear view mirror and you see some guy in a mini van with his wife and you can see them looking at each other with funny faces going honey, I think theres something wrong with our van, whats that smell. And i just laugh to myself Ha Ha Ha. The only time the smell gets real bad is when have the vent on not the A/C just the vent. Get the O/RX
