Urethane vs Rubber tranny mounts

Im not too concerend w/ a rougher ride I just want what is absolutley best for the tranny, is it a urethane or a factory replacment rubber mount, as mine are blown. Thanks!! :SNSign:

Urethane will last longer, rubber will be more plush ride.

ok but which is better for the tranny? Urethane will obviously be much stiffer, but will it cause drivetrain shock or is it recomended over rubber.

I am a poly man and for the tranny can't think of a single reason not to use it for street cars. I use it and really it is as smooth as my rubber mount which was old but functional. Tranny mounts are not quite as critical as motor mounts as far as smothness is concerned anyways. Mine is NOT harsh at all.

I agree with all of the above. As said, the trans mount is not as crucial in transferring vibration as the motor mounts. And having it hold up better is a nice plus. They are cheap too (I would have gone all poly had poly motor mounts not been so expensive).

Dont forget the crossmember bushings too.

HISSIN50 I did replace my crossmember bushing with poly but after 120,000 miles and 17 years they were really in good shape. Now my tranny mount was showing its age.

My rubber tranny mount didn't seem bad when I took it out - no cracks or anything - but with the poly in there, WOW, it made a heckuva difference in shift feel and regular driving. My gearshift isn't wobbling all over the place going down the road, and I don't see my shifter doing a funny dance every time I hit a bump/dip in the road. You do get a tad bit more vibration through the shifter, but nothing that resonates throughout the car or anything that serious.

Now, I just gotta figure out why it looks as though my whole drivetrain is cocked a few degrees clockwise, like I got a droopy passenger-side motor mount, and thereby threatening to tear up my new ES poly trans mount...

... well, some of us are (interpret this whichever way makes you feel good) ...

Poly is better for the tranny in the sense that it absorbs enough energy to thwart of bad vibes, but it's also rigid enough to fight off conflicting changes in motion ...
However, if the other attaching pieces are rubber it loads the bearing in the tailshaft with a little more force ... nothing dramatic though.

I run poly at the engine, tranny (w/ X) and control arms ... at first they feel stiff, but they break in nicely, and like said above: your shifter won't dance around. It's much nicer when the drivetrain feels attached to the chassis

I guess I am the one guy that voted for the rubber tranny mount. I am not sure about the tranny I was thinking more of the motors mounts. I did a seach as I was wondering which to use when i drop in the 347. From what I've read ppl are saying there is more vibration with the poly's than the rubber which is weird 'cause I thought that's what the poly's were supposed do...stop vibration better than the rubber

I use urethane x member bushings, trans bushing and motor mounts. No issues what so ever except the motor mounts I have raise the engine a tad which I didn't know.

The poly has a greater durometer rating, which means that a byproduct is that it transmits more vibration to the chassis (the next step, solid mounts, does this even more-so). Rubber is soft and pliable so it absorbs more vibrations, but that quality (its softness) also means that it also allows more flex and does not 'anchor' the motor as well, which results in a slight drop in HP to the RW over a more rigid mount).

For folks considering rubber mounts, the mounts for a '93 (which are captured vert mounts) are the way to go IMHO.
