I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the new CAS USA66 replica radio? How difficult is install on a 65 with factory AC? What are options for speakers, I only have the one original in the dash. Don't need much just to listen to something other than AM static...

Where is the best/cheapest place to purchase one of these from....

I found it over at Restore Mustangs for $259.95, I have never purchased anything from them but they look reputable.

USA-66 for $259 (RestoreMustangs.com)

Let me know if anyone can recommend a better place to purchase from...

looks nice kinda like the origional... i bet the sound quality is not that great ive heard bad things about reliability and sound quality... i had a different model that lasted a year and it was toast.

I dont care for the retro fit radios, they are over priced and have minimal features.............AND DO NOT BELIVE THE 200 WATT MODELS!!!!!!!!

I have a JVC mod from ken harrison. I think I paid 200 for it. Looked and sounded good when I installed it 8 years ago. IT outlasted the amps, crossovers, and speakers. Been thinking about moding my orginal to FM and modulate an imput for my MP3 player.

Yeah, the quality on those radios is crap. I have one of their units. The balance is way off center, weak tuner, underpowered, rough feeling controls,etc...

I agree! These units are made by Custom Autosounds and they are junk! I have two of them and both have had a lot of problems. I think the company used to be named "Spark-o-Matic" for those of you that remember those gems.

You may be right!!! I remember buying a Sparko-kit for next to nothing. You'd move the dial and the pointer might move, but if it does it jumps so you can't get it right on the station.

get a block off plate and get a good din cd/mp3 player and put it in the glovebox and be done with it.

Just installed one of these in my 65 coupe last week. The radio fits well and the install was easy and straight foward. The sound is decent for what it is (I have two 6x9's in the rear and a 2 channel dash speaker) It has manual tuning, the push buttons actually control the functions for the CD changer, MP3 etc. It does look god and is a nice addition if keeping an original look is important which it was to me. We will see how long it lasts - I took out an older custom autosound cassette unit i installed 8 years ago which was still working OK.

Mine sometimes turns on and sometimes it doesn't. The connections are good but something in the radio is intermittent. The remote CD player that came with it sometimes works, but mostly does not. When I put the disc holder in it and sit in the garage it plays good but if I drive around and hit a bump it quits playing until I take the disc holder out and insert it again until the next bump. I didn't have this much trouble with my 8-track player.

Mine also intermittently loses memory even though there is no power loss. But, it did fit.
