I should have been more specific. If I were looking at buying a used tranny I wouldnt want a stock t5 used on a blown or nitroused stang. Or a tremmec off a 11 second drag only car. I bought a T5Z from D&D for close to $1200 new, for my girlfriends stock 87 GT.
I only would buy one used if i drove in the car prior to removal, I've bought too many that were "said to be fine," and then had to spend more $$$ to get it rebuilt then just buying a new one...just my .02
i bought my t5-z for 450 and it came off of a low 11 sec, blown lx hatch. it was rebuilt about 6 months before I got it and it is and has run fine since I got it.
if you can find a tremec for 650 i wonder what condition it is in? thats pretty cheap. if it is ok then I would probably go with that but only IF it is ok.
The used tranny i have in my 90 Lx was from a 87 Gt.
Baught from a salvage yard for $800 including all the AOD to T-5 conversion parts
The odometer on that Mustang was well over 200,000 miles I'm sure.
I've had the tranny for four years without any problems.
That mustnag looked like a pile of junk put seemed to be mechanicly sane.
I guess you just have to get lucky with used parts
I bought my T5 that was said to grind second for $80...yes $80. I just finished goinf through it and its not anywhere as hard as some people make it out to be...just time consuming...i also got my cases powdercoated so that added time You will need a press also. Get friendly with a machine shop and 3 trips there with the parts to use the press and youll be set.
