Is this an OK practice? Or is it simply the cheap and wrong way to do it? Basically I would like to run GT40P heads with a #19 cam on a stock shortblock, and then throw a Novi at it. Can I lower the compression using a thicker head gasket, or is this really not recommended. How about some recommendations on what head gasket to use.

Thanks

Why do you need to lower the compression on a stock shortblock when its already low to begin with? It'll hurt your quench and make you more prone to detonation.

I've been told the GT40P will raise compression to roughly 9.6:1 a little more then I'd like to run on the stock shortblock with a Novi-2k where pulleying for anything less than 8psi is difficult.

9.6:1 is nothing IMO.

Besides, don't listen to what people tell you w/o actually MEASURING! If those heads are in the 64cc range you are not 9.6:1.

I do intend to measure before ordering head gaskets, however the GT40p's I'm installing have been worked over and should be closer 60cc's.

you can do it with thicker head gaskets, but make sure you do the math first so you know what its gonna be before and after

I appreciate the first hand knowledge. I assume this was before the Mr. Freeze and 12# setup in your signature?
