I am currently building a 331 stroker for my 94 cobra and I am looking for some thoughts about putting a sq or sc vortech with about 6 lbs boost on it. I have a stock block with an eagle cast steel crank, forged rods and forged pistons. I need to utilize a head with a larger chamber to get my compression ratio between 9:1 and 9.5:1. That is why I am considering on a low boost #. I have stock GT40 heads and cobra lower and upper intakes. Would it be better for me to go NA with a CR around 10:1 or drop my CR to around 9:1 and get the vortech with 6lbs boost?? I would be very happy with 400 rwhp as I want to keep much of the car stock like transmission and rear end with 3:73's of course. I've never had a supercharger on a car before but have done a lot of research. Anyone with any thoughts or similar setups could you please give me some insight! Thanks guys.

I would also like to know some info on this. I've got a 93 gt and plan on building a 331 similar to what you have. I was going to use the trick flow top end kit. Then going to get a novi 1000 kit. I think running any more boost than a standard v-1 or novi 1000 on a stock block stroker is asking for trouble. Your tranny will probably go eventually, I'm looking at getting a TKO 500/600 or even T56. But the risk would be splitting the stock block in half. From what people have told me so far, go n/a and if you want a supercharger keep the boost low unless you don't mind cracking a block or two. You can always sell you block you have now to me, then save up for a stronger block, like a dart block. But, like i said from what people have told me, a standard sc kit should be find. My goal would be something close to 400, not sure if i'll get there. Someone on stangnet posted a way to calculate hp output based on the displacement. It was .745 X displacement. A 302 x .745= 224.99. 331 X .745= just about 247. Then factor in your heads, cam, intake, other bolt ons. Reaching 350 hp should be pretty easy. Then factor in running 5-6 lbs of boost, should reach your goal. I got to order my short block soon :D . Let me know what you end up going with and how things work out. Thanks

A buddy of mine is putting out 475rwhp on a stock block and hasn't split anything yet. He is using stock internals except for forged pistons, edelbrock heads, upper and lower intakes and a v-2 with 13lbs boost. Even if I don't hit the 400 rwhp mark with what I am thinking about doing it won't be too big a deal. I would sacrifice some hp for better fuel econ and risking of spliting my block. I know my heads and upper/lower intakes are kind of weak that would also negate me from pushing too many horses. I do not know what way to go witha Supercharger because I took a ride in my friends car with the v-2 and it was actually quieter than I expected. I like it quiet but I want to hear the whistle too. I would actually like to hear a sound clip of the v-1 vs v-2. I need to do more research on the matter and also try to find the best parts combo for the best performance/driveability. Will keep you posted and you do the same please if you come across something goooood! Thanks

There are plenty of people running more than 450hp on stock blocks. I guess for me its not a risk worth taking when I have been saving up for my 331 short block for awhile now. Plus, my gt is my daily driver. I figure if the block doesn't break, the transmission will. So just saving up for the tko. I came across video clips awhile back of a 92 gt with a v-1, but can't find it now. It was extremely nosiy, the v-1's sound sweet to me. I have heard clips of the v-2, most of them not as loud. I posted a thread up not too long ago for people to post video clips of vortechs vs. paxton, I don't think anyone posted but I will check. I want to know how loud the novi 1000 kits are compared to the v-1.

Yeah I've been doing to research on the novi 1000 too but I do drive my car to work so the noisy blower probably is not the way to go. The reason why I like it is because it is a little cheaper than the v-2 and novi 2000 but if I get sick of the whistle than its not worth spending less. I will do some searchin tonight on paxton vs vortech, but I was just reading from a post 2 years ago about procharger and some of the products they have. I read they had a supercharger that had a self contained oil system. I do like that I idea but I forget if the canton oil pan I just purchased has a provision for the oil hose already there. I haven't received it yet this week hopefully. My main concern with going to a supercharger is the strain it will have on my drivetrain/rear if I get on it too hard. I am not planning on taking the car to the track and racing it. If I want the power I know its there. will post my findings if any. Thanks my name is John by the way.
