Guys, I know the V8 machines pretty well. But I have some questions about V6 cars.

I know the Horsepower went up significantly in 99. My question is in the rear end mostly.

What is the ratios in a V6 Mustang coupe? I'm hoping they are basically the same as a GT car because the 3.27 Trac-loc would suit me nicely.

I'm looking to snag a 6-er for a little SCCA RallyCross racing. I felt that a Mustang with a decently powerful V6 would do well in the RWD class. Torque / Gearing / Traction seem to be the winning combos. Most of the cars lack torque and some didn't have the right gearing so they are constantly shifting to 2nd and bogging or just bouncing the rev limiter in first for 1/4th of the longer straits.

I felt that a 99+ V6 5-spd (The more potent one, plus I just really like that style) would be a great machine. Put a taller "knobby" tire on the stock 15" wheels, strut tower brace, and mud flaps, make a skidplate for it. Then go kick tail!

So I need to know the axle gearing and if I'll need to find a trac-loc diff for it, because I WILL need it!

P.S... search wasn't really very helpful in this endeavor. 3.08 open, to 3.27Loc.... seems to be a range of availability and most want to swap to 3.73... but not me on this car.

99-04 V6 was 3.27 with an open differential. Pre-99's were 2.73's mostly, still open rear. T-lok on a 7.5" rear is ok, but if you modify the V6 and stress it, the t-lok breaks easily. I got a TrueTrac, bout $200 more but it's so nice. No clutches to wear out, and it is just physically built better.

Hmm, I was thinking the 99-up cars had the 8.8" with the power boost they got that year. Irregardless, if I ever get really into this and start going for modefied class I could always swap rears. 3.27 gears is a bonus for me though and I know a great driveline shop locally. They'd be more than happy to drop a true track in it for me.

Thanks guys!

P.S... Roughly how much power can be added before the 7.5" blows chunks?
