I've been doing mine every 5k miles but was wondering if i should stretch it out to 7500 or even 10k. I do about 40miles a day to/from work, 75%/25% highway/city. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic.

What do you guys do/use with your 6ers?

I change my oil every 6-7k miles using royal purple synthetic oil. I also put close to the same amount of miles on my car a day too. Every 10k miles might be stretching it a little to much.

I use regular stuff but I change mine every 3-4k and the reason is buy this time the url is starting to get burnt. synthetic will get 1 or 2k more before its plaqed. The 4.0 is a cast iron block.

spend $25 or so and send your oil at 3,000 miles to a lab. They'll check it and tell you if you need to change it earlier or later. Plus give you a whole breakdown of which chemicals and metals may be in your oil so you can keep track of engine wear. It's really the only way to know for sure what your oil change schedule should be.

So could they tell if there are bits of valve metal in there from too little back pressure, due to a custom exhaust system? That would be neat.
