Both.

The 85.5-89 V8 t-5 is rated at 265 ft-lbs of torque. The 90+ V8 T-5 is rated at 300 ft-lbs. The gearing is the same but the difference between those two is the alloys.

In the case of the 4-banger, the numerically higher gearing mathematically weakens the gear (because with steeper gears you can appy more torque) as well as i believe the alloy is the same as the early t-5's. I am not sure on that but they didn't upgrade until 1994 or so.
