Rough idle and my vacuum gauge is only reading 5 inches at idle, but goes to 20 when I give it gas. It should be at 20 idle and head towards the 0 when I give it gas right. I'm sure I have hooked something up wrong, but I can't figure this one out.

Did you recently perform any engine work, such as replacing your intake? It's entirely possible that you have everything attached properly, but your leak is at the intake somewhere.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

That's a major vacuum leak somewhere.

It's all new...the entire engine. I can't hear it leaking anywhere, but i will check around the intake and see what I find.

OK vacuum issue solved.....it helps to have all the bolts tight on the intake...duh.
Thanks for the helping.

Another issue though. Trying to get the timing set cause it still runs like total crap. When I pull the spout the car dies and won't start. I have tried to move the distributor around to get to run w/o the spout and no luck. Is the car not running w/o the spout as sign of another issue. Bad TFI maybe??

It's a sign that the timing is way of, or the idle is set too low. Try adjusting the idle screw up temporarily to get it to idle. Just keep messing with the distributer, and you'll get it. To get a baseline, turn the engine over with a wrench. Take white out, and mark a line down the side of the distributer from the the number one lead all the way down to the cap adapter (doesn't necessarily have to be white out, a good marker will do. I just find that white out is the best marker for engine and car stuff). then pull the distributer cap, and line the distributer until the rotor is pointing directly at the white line. If the rotor is pointing in the opposite direction of the white line, the number one cylinder is on the exhaust stroke. Turn the crankshaft another 360 degrees and realign the marker with 14 degrees again. It should be pointing at or near the white line.

If the car won't run with the spout removed leave it in and check the timing @2500 rpm. You should be at about 34*. If it's higher or lower adjust to 34* at that rpm. Then pull the spout and I'm certain the reading will be close to 10*.

Well I got it to where it will run w/o the spot in, but it runs so bad w/o it that it is not firing the number one cylinder consistently making it difficult to set the timing. it will run ok with the spout but as soon as I pull it out the car runs like total crap. I had a friend of mine who is a mechanic come help me today and he can't figure it out either. Very frustrating.

Has the cam been changed? Mine with the Spout pulled doesn't idle as smoothly as it used to with the stock cam.

It's a stage one trickflow cam.

I'll try to get a video up this weekend.
