It's a sign that the timing is way of, or the idle is set too low. Try adjusting the idle screw up temporarily to get it to idle. Just keep messing with the distributer, and you'll get it. To get a baseline, turn the engine over with a wrench. Take white out, and mark a line down the side of the distributer from the the number one lead all the way down to the cap adapter (doesn't necessarily have to be white out, a good marker will do. I just find that white out is the best marker for engine and car stuff). then pull the distributer cap, and line the distributer until the rotor is pointing directly at the white line. If the rotor is pointing in the opposite direction of the white line, the number one cylinder is on the exhaust stroke. Turn the crankshaft another 360 degrees and realign the marker with 14 degrees again. It should be pointing at or near the white line.
