I've been in the market for a classic mustang for awile now... and I want something to restomod. I don't want to ruin something that is rare, but if I got something rare that somebody else hacked I wouldn't mind.

Now yesterday I looked at a 65 GT with a 4 speed toploader and Hi-Po 289. It wasn't the stock engine or tranny so the numberswouldn't match. The interior looked it's age but wasn't horrible. It had a roll bar in the back, racing seats, mag wheels, disc brakes (stock) koni shocks. The windshield is cracked, there are some dents, some chipped paint with rust showing, and a bad rust spot in the floor so that your heel goes through the floor a bit when you depress the clutch.

I can weld and all of that, I plan on getting a new paint job and probably new everything else, but I could take it out on the weekends in the mean time.

The guy is asking $3,200 I am definately willing to pay that for the car, but what do you guys think? I've jumped on cars before and regretted it later, I've wanted an old mustang forever so I want to do it right and this is the perfect place for advice. Opinions?

First off, I just read your sig and o.O, too bad the 300z isnt TT

Second, I would offer the guy $2600. Itd take alot to get a bad deal on a mustang for $2600.

it's hard to say by your description how cancerous the rust is.

but it would have to be pretty bad to make a running gt less worth less than $3200. you did say it was a gt, right?

i would think you could buy it and immediately resell it for at least $1000 profit. depending on the actual shape of the car.

honestly, i would be very concerned about what that floorpan says about other areas of the car tht aren't directly observable. still, though, a running gt?

Yeah, a running 4 speed GT at that. The engine is also new.
