hey guys,
What im looking to do with my valve covers is to loop a stainless steel line from cover to cover in the rear of them, maybe like a 10an line. I heard this will let my engine breath better in the higher rpms? have you guys ever heard of such a thing? My main question is if maybe i should in the middle of the line put a tee fitting with a breather, or should i leave it sealed? does anyone have any information on the downs breather kit ford racing sells? thanks
Tim

I am not understanding this. Are you using a conventional K&N valve cover breather?

I have no idea why hooking the 2 valve covers together would allow for better breathing.
If you want put on 2 breathers, one on each valve cover. There is no reason to tie them together.

Maybe I misunderstood?
Wouldn't be the first time.

Tim, I'm with jason on this one, I don't see why one would benefit from connecting the VCs together as they're both part of the crank case without the connection. I don't recommend the breather, you have a closed PCV system and running an open breather is only one thing...a big vacuum leak. The stock PCV system, when properly maintained with a good PCV filter, PCV grommet, and PCV valve will evacuation the crankcase sufficiently for almost any setup while open breathers don't evacuate the crankcase, they only relieve crankcase pressure.

I've done what you are talking about, sort of what your talking about. I run a -12an line from each cover over to a breather tank. Delete and plug the PCV altogether and just use the two vent hoses.. It's the same thing as breathers except you don't get the mess if they blow oil because the line routes it to a catch can. Do not just connect them and plug them.. They need to run to a Breathable catch can. Only issue is you need to have baffles installed under your welded in fittings or you will get a lot of oil coming out of the lines. I welded in a male fitting like this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...atalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=22887 to each valve cover, and one extra on on my breather tank http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...atalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=19957 Works great. Here is a picture of it installed

i like what you did with the spyder. i have a spyder intake and what i did was put a breather on the pass side, drilled a hole in the drivers valve cover, installed grommet and pcv valve. this eliminated the need for a catch can. even at 6k with 12psi of boost, it holds all the oil in, and when my heat is on you dont even smell it blowing out of the vents. if you offset the pcv valve from the center of the valve cover, you can get away with not having to use the baffles. being the oil is not shot directly at it. how does that intake work for you being you are naturall aspirated??

It works nice. I'm running the Vic Jr lower that is lightly ported and matched. With 418 cubes, runner length and torque isn't much of an issue.

So you've got the crankcase pressure equalization part down just like with a filtered breather cap, but what positively ventilates the crankcase if the PCV is gone? It takes a little suction in order to pull those corrosive vapors out of the crankcase, did you hook any AN lines up to the headers? BTW, the engine looks great!

No I did not hook anything up to the headers. It's not needed. I don't have an evac system. If there is crankcase "pressure" then it will be looking for an out. I've given it two easy outs and it will take the path of least resistance. The system I use is the system that has been recommended by several builders i've talked to for the level and rpm at which I plan. When I specifically asked Bennett about it this is what he recommended knowing I plan on 750+ rwhp with a blower. I had to redo the rings in my engine recently due to an issue I had (my fault ). Believe me you don't need "suction" to pull the gases out of it. I can send you a video of smoke pooring out of my breather at idle if you like to show you how well it works.

Ponyboy....i am going with the same set up as you "breather catch can" do you have to rune baffles on the valve covers? was the oil just pooling out without them?

I never ran it without baffles. Personally I would run some sort of baffle especially if your seeing boost. My Bennett Racing valve covers already had baffle bosses on the underside of them, so all I had to do is punch the hole, weld in the fitting, and screw in the baffle plate. IMO mounted on top side like I have them, they definetly need some sort of baffling whether it be a plate on the underside of the hole like mine have, or possibly a bit of tubing under the fitting with a welded in flap kind of thing so that the oil hits it and the air goes around it.

I did that on my last set up. Same thing except the way I have it now, if oil is blown out, it goes to a catch can instead of all over my engine bay. Both will breath fine. I just hated the mess I used to have with dripping oil.

We went from dual breather (with baffles) to a Moroso 4 vane vacuum pump.

It made a noticable differance. For one,our lifters stoped tapping!

Second, sense it actauly makes a good deal of crank case vacuum,it seals the rings better and also draws in more of an intake charge. And it can also help keep the oil from foaming up (air in oil, thats why our hyd. lifters quited down),and I notice that a couple small leaks we had near the oil pan stoped:

So if your runing long tube (I never sense them on shorty, but Im sure it would work),you can use the header evac system and they will pull some vacuum.

bluevenom867. Do you have any pictures of your set up. When I get blower on I may look into a Moroso racing vacuum pump or a 4-Vane "Pro Mod" style pump. Not sure how it would work with different blower bracket set ups and no motor plate. A vacumn pump like the Moroso is defiently nice
