valve cover gaskets dont fit

welcome to the wonderful world of romeo/windsor 4.6 differences. One assembly plant uses 13 bolt cam covers, one plant uses 11 bolt covers. I think the windsor is 13 and the romeo is 11. It could be vice versa though.

well if you look at the listing from autozone or for anywhere else for that matter vs50481r says its for a 96 4,6L vin X.could it be a mis label from fel pro?

and then to make it even weirder on the box I have it says 4.6L 2003-1996 but it doesnt give a vin code on the box, however correct me if im wrong but they only made the windsor motors from 1999 to 2000. and also Im counting 14 grommet holes in the gaskets not 13 as I originally wrote. do I trim any off?

I may just end up using the old ones, and hoping they dont leak.the old ones were just a ribbon with no grommet holes.

Windsors were only put in Mustangs those couple of years but Ford's been putting them in trucks all along.

Those gaskets won't work. Either order the right ones without any grommets or reuse your old ones. Your old ones are probably fine to reuse if they're still in one piece and don't have any serious tears in them.

If you have trouble getting them to stay in place while installing the valve covers, put a thin bead of RTV in the gasket channel in the covers - just enough to hold the gaskets in place - and install the gaskets and let it cure.
