Blew a headgasket and had a quick question about setting valve lash. The Hydraulic Lifters did not come out and the 1.7 Roller Rockers did not get adjusted one bit. Can I just re-insert the pushrods and not redo the valve lash?
perhaps but it is a good time to reset it and check for wear. it is good to set up your rockers everyso often. Some drag racers near my town have told me to do it before each race. even though i have hydraulic lifters. there was a article a while back in a mopar muscle mag which showed how much hp you can lose by having the valve train set up wrong by the slightest of margins.
I agree you would be surprised how much out of adjustment they can get even when using posilock retainers. I would strongly suggest you adjust them after doing the heads.
You have to find Zero Lash but then once u find it you turn it an additional 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 turn whichever, I would recommend 1/2 turn after zero lash but thats me. If its a track car and youre always in the high rpms you should run lower preload. My one teacher told me about a guy that always came in first in races by running very low preload. I think it was a flat tappet but not sure but no one knew how it was possible that he was running such high rpms on his stock bottom end when everyone else had upgraded bottom ends, just cuz he ran very low preload it was like 1/8 turn preload or lower made him able to spin up to redline without floating a valve all the time.
