hi guys-

I just finished installing my 270H cam and set my valves at a half turn past zero lash, but I noticed that some of my valve springs are opening diferently than others, but the height of valve springs when the valve is closed is the same. what could be the problem that some of my valves are opening more than others

any help would be greeatly appreciated.

oh yeah my cam specs are 224/224 @ .05 and has a lift of .500

the problem only seems to be on the passenger side cylinder head, only valves 1 and 6 on this side only all the way, all the others seem to open a little bit shorter.

the valves on the driver side cylinder head all open properly.

How are you determining that the valves are not opening the proper amount? If you are just watching them while the engine is running then it is more than likely your eyes playing tricks on you.

The only proper way to measure is by using a dial indicator and fake lifter on each lobe to verify the cam....then you can measure at the valve retainer to verify the rocker arm ratio is correct.

Like the previous poster said, you could have lifters that are not pumped up all the way and if you are merely turning the engine over by hand and watching the vavles I think this could be your problem. Did you pre-soak the lifters to fill them up? Every time you turn an engine over by hand it pumps more oil out of the lifters and they collapse a little more.

thanks for the replies mustang70 and Ronstang.

I soaked the lifters overnight in oil. I think you may be right about my eyes playing tricks on me, I just turned the motor over by hand.

I plan on firing up the car this weekend (hopefully earlier but I got shcool), so I hope nothing goes wrong.
