I was adjusting my rocker arms today. Ive done it a million and 1 times soo im pretty sure im doing this right. tighten unitl you cant turn the pushrod by hand, then give it a 1/2-3/4 turn. Well Ive been doing it cold and when im done adjusting, Ill spin the engine to the next cylinder and go check on the previous. If I pull up on the rocker arm, the push rod will go down and push on the lifter, giving about a 1/8'' gap between the rocker arm and valve tip. When i let go, the rocker arm seems to be adjusted properly. Im thinking that the lifters are collapsed.... The engine has less than 10 miles on it, lifters are new. help...thanks

Mike

Rotating the motor opens the the valves, which forces the oil out of the lifter since there is no oil pressure.. The oil pressure must be brought up the refill the lifter before it will feel solid again. I doubt he is pulling studs at that rpm.

Probably right.

I wasn't suggesting that he was pulling studs by hand(!), but I have seen people struggle with setting valves the conventional way when they had press-ins where you just torque the nut to spec. Press-ins are torqued, screw-ins are set with lock nuts.
