im not sure about but does anyone know about the valve in the intake that changes the length of the runners. i have a friend whos neighbor had the same year and had issues with his and had to clean them. Is this an issue and do i even have them on my 97 dohc. ive heard somewhere about bypassing them or removing, not sure. please let me know if anyones heard anything.

Kinda sounds like you are inquiring about the IMRCs ? 
Your '97 did indeed come with them from the factory. If you are not the original owner, there is a chance they could have been deleted.
Run a search for keyword "IMRC" and you'll find a few helpful past threads that cover the topic.
