Grrrrrrr.... lol. All I can do is shake my head and wish that I'd bought a mkIII Supra Turbo. I was driving my car home today, when some guy pulls up next to me in a civic; sure enough, he pulls away from me, and I'm giving it just about all I've got, so I'm sure he's feeling way too proud of himself. The funny thing is, I haven't even been able to get a race in my car, everyone I've thrown revs at is just too scared; my car is a bright red 89 LX 5.0 5spd with white racing stripes, and has a bassani x-pipe with rear dumps, so its loud as hell (last time I revved it in a parking garage I set off at least 15 car alarms), and it has BBK and Flowmaster stickers etc. all over it (all from the previous owner) with none of these parts actually being on the car. It has a non H.O. 5.0 in it, I think from a crown Vic or something like that, and it's the slowest 5.0 mustang EVER. Seriously, I'd feel as stupid as anyone thats ever changed the muffler on a tercel and added a racing wing, this is almost as bad. Never mind the fact that I bought it that way (for cheap!) . . . and, I guess it does sound really nice, but . . .

I don't even want to drive this damn thing anymore.

Anyways, it'll be a while before I can get a GT-40 intake and heads w/ new valvetrain and upgrade the cam and all that, I know that these motors are similar to 5.0 H.O.s, anyone know anything about them? Like, is there anyway to make more power for like, free? Anyone know anything about converting the crappy EFI to the sequential FI system that's on the HO motors? Information about these motors seems to be hard to find; I've heard that the firing order is different, but supposedly swapping the cam will change this, otherwise as near as I can tell I'll probably gain well over 100 hp with a cheap h/c/i swap because this thing can't be putting out even the what, 180 crank hp thats its supposed to. I don't even think this is a 15 second car.

That Supra's sounding better every day . . .

Do ya play poker? Your car is a very large bluff. You have to save money for real adjustments, and treat absolutely everyone you line up with as though they were a waste of your gas. Let them go run off, you always pull away like you were driving a Civic to the grocery store, leave 'em guessing. And only turds or amateurs rev at people at stoplights.

Depends on what year it's from. You'll have to dig around and get part numbers to be sure.

If it's a 87+ motor is will be a roller lower end and all it would take is H/C/I to be equal to a 5.0 HO motor.

Some of the 5.0 non-HO's only put out 150HP :nonono:

What he said.

I wouldn't even bother converting the fuel injection. Save up to do heads, cam and a carb. Or maybe find a H.O long block at least for now?

Yeah, I play poker; I used to make $200-$500 a week from "JokerStars" until they started rigging the game a year ago, now I don't make squat. You're not the first person to tell me to convert to carburetion, but I haven't been able to get anyone to tell me that I'd really see any improvement in performance, the only benefit seems to be that I wouldn't have to learn how to tune FI and I'd only have to get a lower intake manifold; on the other hand by the time I buy a nice carb it seems all that money would buy me all the FI upgrade stuff I need anyways (and I get to stay street legal . . . sort of). Of course, the motor is barely half the equation because I don't want a drag car, I just want at least 300 reliable hp in a stiff chassis with nice suspension etc. to do track days at Laguna Seca and Infineon and by the time I get done making this Mustang a sportscar I'd almost be better off buying a real sportscar from the get-go. Of course, every time I hear that beautiful racket when the motor revs up, I wanna keep her . . .

LOL. Are there professional stoplight racers? I can't help it sometimes, I generally only rev back at people when they rev at me first -- and they generally smile and give up when they hear my car -- funny. I'm only so impressed by how fast any given car is in a straight line anyways, it's how fast one can carve up a twisty road that matters to me.

i know the feeling, my capri had the stock motor an some beat summit cam an after 4500rpm the thing fell on its face. i barely beat my friends 02 maxima 3.5...BARELY! i did a rollor motor swap with longtubes an edelbrock intake. before the swap it was most likely a mid 15 second car, after the swap i think my best time was 14.2 right around 98mph or so. the carb i had was junk but if it had a good one it would have broken 13s for sure. find a donor car or someone who is bulding another motor an snag there old stocker, its like night an day...if you get a good running motor lol. roller 5.0 ftw!

To answer your question, yes, there are professional stoplight racers:D You just don't know it til there's money on the line, and the light went green, too:nice:

Killed by a civic, huh?

Try this. Take a motor out of an explorer from a junkyard. $400.. Put a TFS stage 1 cam or a e cam in there. $150. Try again.
Or just get your supra and hope you don't run into the right mustang from a dig.

x2... and hope your car doesnt ever have to actually drive anywhere that isnt the dyno.

....that wasnt fair. i love supras haha

I'd gladly trade you your "slowest Mustang ever" for my '84 CFI car. I think my car is, at best, a 16-second ride. Ugh. You can feel it start to drop off by about 3500 RPM and by the time it shifts it almost has you thinking that the tranny is just freewheeling because it's making a helluva lotta racket but not giving any pull. The CFI is essentially a 2-barrel carb intake with a pseudo-carb (with two fat injectors) slapped on top of it, and the single-outlet, single-cat, 2.25" exhaust system was possibly designed by a 4th grader. I would love more than anything to drop in a roller motor, or at least ditch the CFI and go carb'ed, and swap to duals, but between the way Ford decided to complicate my life with the location of their external fuel pump and filter (both right where the passenger-side muffler goes) and Arizona being almost as much a bunch of Smog Nazis as in California, I'm hesitant to do ANYTHING to upgrade the car.

But what the hell ... at least I'm pulling down 24+ MPG with an AOD, and it's got WAY more low-end torque than a four-banger Fox, so I guess things could be worse.

Oh yeah, and... :Track:

Hey if you didn't live on the wrong coast i have sitting in my garage a 302 roller short block with forged pistons with twisted reliefs for Trick Flow twisted wedge heads. Still has the ARP studs in the block. Motor has under 20,000 miles since it was built.

I think im gonna use it to V8 a Civic to take to import night and piss folks off. A nice V8 DSM would anger alot of folks. My buddy has a garage with enough welding equipment to make it happen!!!

Don't race on the street....besides i heard they were crushing cars for racing these days. Not worth getting in trouble.

In 10 years of driving Mustangs around, i've never once revved my engine at another car at a stop light.

I can't help but think how much of an idiot i'd look if i did that.

:D You sound a bit self conscious there. Personally I don't care if anyone thinks I'm an idiot, about the only way I can enoy my car at the minute is to hear it rev, that's really its only saving grace, that it sounds so nice. Besides, whats the point of owning a fast car (not that mine is, it's just supposed to be) if you don't have fun with it and cut loose every once in a while? I'm not saying drive 100 through downtown, and I'm not even really into dragracing at all (my car is supposed to find its way onto a road course sooner or later); but what the hell, it is fun to let your car stretch her legs, and so much the better if you have company (and it's not putting anyone else at risk). Geez! Lighten up a bit. I hope you're not like all the old men I see with corvettes or other nice cars around where I live that never let their cars rev past 4500 or go past 100 . . . cause thats just fu**ing lame as hell, seriously, whats the point? It's one of the greatest injustices in the world today, I'm telling you.

Yeah, I got screwed a couple weeks ago; I saw a 96 explorer 5.0 come into the local junkyard, but you couldn't touch it til saturday, so I got there early saturday morning (like 2 hours before the place opened). Of course, 2 minutes before the place opens like 15 people cut in front of everyone, and by the time I got to it there were 5 people wrenching on it. I was so pissed, I could've gotten the heads and intake for $120. There's someone else local thats had another exploder with a blown tranny on craigslist for a while, my buddy said he dropped the price to $450 but I don't know if it'd be worth it 'cause it has about 266 k on it.

There is a difference between enjoying your car in the way you described and egging someone on to race at a stop light by revving at them

Have a machine shop check the crank and bores. Odds are, you can just have it honed, put in new eings and bearings and be good to go.

Unfortunately, NOPI is no longer, but IIRC you could run a turbo 4 cylinder mustang in their import class. And yes, from what I read that pissed a lot of people off. I like the way you think.:stirpot:
