Hey guys, I have been breaking in the new 347 and I have to say I was quite impressed with the power as today I kind of goosed it for the first time. I've been breaking in the spec clutch so I have been taking it easy for awhile.

I can roll out of a stop sign in second gear and at a roll can light the tires up instantaneously til hell won't have it.

that's just a 3 or 4 mph roll. obviously I could burn tires up all day. I must give props to spec for an amazing clutch, it's simply unbelievable. I have a tfs cam, r intake and heads all of which have been unbelievable as well. this combo really seems to work well together.

my problem lies in the exhuast. I have an issue with the mufflers bottoming out. I have tried rotating the flow tubes a million times and no matter what I try the rub and scrape on the smallest bumps. gravel roads the scrape the whole time.


any ideas on what I may be doing wrong. its muffs into dumps now. I am considering going with a catback system and I believe would solve it.

Now, I have the flowtubes hooked to the muffs with clamps than I welded hangers onto the mufflers that go in the stock rubber guys and the dumps are tig welded to the mufflers.

help if ya can.

Breaking in the motor easy or hard will have no effect on performance of the engine..once the rings seat (regardless of how you drive) it's all the same. Rick91 and Micheal Y have both told me they just drive the car normal to break it in..even baby it for a bit if you will. I trust these two more than most.
 
While both of those guys are very good, i'd still follow the link if I had a new motor. I didnt post to start a war. That link makes sense and has pics of examples, proof is in the pudding in this one.
 
To each there own..personally I don't really think break in is necessary, just start her up run a bit change the oil and have at here...change oil every 200-500 for 2000 miles and then go synthetic.
 
my break in procedure

well I just thought that this was a debate I would let ya know how I did do it. I took the advice that most give and that is regular driving for about 2000 miles. I was really careful breaking in the clutch for the first 500 miles, shifting a lot, up and down and at different rpms. when I hit 1000 miles I started to drive a little more aggressive with the upshifting, taking it a little higher in the rpms. I don't think I ever went past 4600 or so for the first 2000 miles.

than last night which was about 2200 miles, I let her rip a few times and it seems to be fine. Took it like an absolute champ.

I'm sure this will be wrong to some, but I gotta say it's nice when you've been building things for 2 years, with your own money, and you built it yourself and it runs to your expectations. Beats buying a car that somebody else already built and just slappin nitrous on it.

what catbacks you guys liking these days.

I'm gonna take off the flowmasters and dumps and probably sell em. they have fallen off a few times from bottoming out, but if anyones interested shoot me a deal. I can get some pics. I gave up on trying to get em up high enough..
