Hi, first off I'm new to the forum and a proud new owner of an 86 5.0 GT. I've had this car for about a week and it runs great, until today I was cruisin around 45 50 and out of nowhere my car starts clunking or banging kind of. It only happens in 1st 2nd and 3rd when i shift into 4th it goes away mostly but not completely. I haven't been able to build up much speed on count of the speed limit and cops are thick here. It only happens in gear and when I put the clutch all the way in it goes away and I can coast in neutral and there is no sound. It's really hard to explain but it's like "tap tap" then a second or two and then another "tap tap". Could it be the clutch or do you guy's think its my tranny. pllllleeeezzzzz my mustang needs your help!!!!

you sure its not the enginr stumbling? it may be more rpm related...
TFI is the most likely issue if its rpm related...

well instead of a sound clip i put the car on jack stands and took a video its not the best quality but you'll get the idea

right on the money! lol I got the new clutch in and took it out for a run. 1st was good 2nd my trans exploded!
time for a tranny swap. thanks guysSimilar threads
