Is it possible that a flywheel would cause vibration at about 3,000 rpms and up? Is it also possible that a vibration like that would be caused by something internal in the engine? I have 5.0 5 speed and nasty vibration from 3,000 on and also a slight vibration at idle, but i think thats from the solid motor mounts. Any help would be appreciated.

Well...

I would have said motor mounts,, make sure all the bolts are holding the tranny, clutch etc.. in place. Any weird sounds coming from the motor when running?? Pullys bent?? Yes it could be a flywheel also.. many things could be the cause

Hey I had a similar problem a few months ago, after replacing the clutch myself.
I took it to a transmission place, they changed the clutch, resurfaced the flywheel, and put a new damper. My car use to vibrate around 2200 rpm when i'd punch it in 1st. Somtimes it would do it in 2nd.I had to pay 900. w labor. Some advice,do what you can yourself.Did the vibe start aftre you installed the solid mounts?Try that first.peace

Does the vibration happen when your sitting still in neutral? Rev engine to 3000 rpm.. Does it vibrate? If it does could be flywheel or vibration dampner. If vibration is speed related look into driveline. Does it vibrate in all gears or just one gear? You have to try and isolate the vibration. Need more info. Put a set of stock convertible rubber motor mounts. Also check your tranny mount. Get a stock one as well.

It vibrates sitting still. It seems to be engine related. It does have a newer balancer. I did not install any of the aftermarket parts. I bought the car the way it is. I think it may be the flywheel but when i asked the guy i bought it from he said it did it before he had the clutch replaced.

I would replace the solid motor mounts with stock convertible mounts first.

I had the same problem and it was the harmonic balancer. You can replace it with a stock ford one for $99. Try that first, it's relitivly cheap and easy to install.A good indication is to open your hood and look down at the balancer with the motor running and see if it wabbles at all. ford balancers are 2 piece and when they wear out they start to seperate and wabble.

Does the oil pressure drop at idle when it heats up? Does it growl when you load it slightly? I have these problems and I'm replacing my main bearings and crank. It's not an entirely bad thing because it gives me an excuse to buy a new exhaust system...

Not yet. I was going to rip the tranny out this weekend and maybe swap the tranny and motor mounts at the same time. Also i have skinnies in the front that er unbalanced, should i get them balanced? i have vibration in the front end at about 80 and i was thinking it may be because they need to be balanced. What do you all think?

yeah my wheels are unbalanced and it vibrates to hell past 70..i have ROHs and they need special wieghts for the outsides and i didnt have them, when i did it at school so i left it as is...as for teh motor vibes check balancer, motormounts and look thoroughly at everything when u drop tranny. good luck

Well what I would do is tackle one thing at a time. Instead of taking the tranny out I would change the motor mounts first. You can get them at autozone. Get the convertible motor mounts, they are stronger. Then see if the car vibrates like you said sitting still. You'll probably feel a big difference. I am going to the car show at the Treasure Coast Mall by the movie theaters. Maybe you can bring your car. I have a silver 90gt convertible. I'll probably go around 6-6:30pm.
