I just found 2 VIII electric fans at pick a part, $50, 1 for a spare. Unfortunately there were no instructions hanging on the side. There is 1 blue wire and 2 blk wires. which is ground and which is hot. I believe there is a high and low speed but which is which. I dont want to burn out the fan experimenting. also what size fuses should I use? Thanks in advance Ron

If i remember right the blue wire is hot and both blacks are negative, one black is low and the other black is high (i may have that totally backwards though..lol)...just touch'em to the battery and you'll figure out which is which and if you get'em backwards all it'll do is spin the motor backwards. I'd do a search as far as how to wire it up, there's tons of info here about it.

I'm using a 40 amp Mega fuse with great success with my Taurus, fan Mega fuses can handle the voltage spike. I couldnt get the VIII fan to fit but I'm sure I would have used the 40 amp fuse since it runs at around 42 amps. Be sure to use a 75+ amp relay and 10ga wiring with with that fan.

I just installed one last weekend and this website should help Never Too Quick Go to the installations and you will find the Mark VIII fan instructions.
Did you wire the fan like Ivers did? On a toggle swith using the two outside wires? I assume the blue is probably hot and the black ground. Do u know what the other black wire is for? The low speed? Im going to email Ivers and try to pick his brain if he has time. Let me know if you find out anything else. Thanks!! If anybody else has any input lets hear it. I would prefer not to do it twice. It feels so good when something actually works the first time.

I had a Taurus fan and a Mark VIII fan in the garage for some time.A week ago,it was time to install one.After a lot of thinking,I went with the Taurus fan.My idea behind that decision was if I'm on a trip,or just doing whatever and the fan dies,I can hit any salvage yard at any time and find a replacement.mark VIII's are getting hard to find around here.The Taurus fan is great.I also used the 40 amp fuse as stated above.No issues at all.I also have the 3G.That can't hurt either.
So if you're running the VIII and you're on a trip and it dies, what's stopping you from getting a Taurus fan anyways? The fuze that's running the VIII will be just fine for the Taurus fan too. In fact, if you get the right year Taurus fan, the plug (3 wire flat plug) is identical to the VIII and they can be interchanged on the fly (depending on how you have them wired up). I've done this several times already. In the end i'm sticking with the VIII because the cfm is second only to a Dodge Viper fan, and good luck finding one of those in a junkyard. I've hot lapped my car at the track and my temp never goes above 180 with the fan running. The ONLY draw back to the VIII fan is if you're running a 3 core radiator or a supercharger, or something to take up excess "front engine" space, you may not be able to fit it.

I didn't even look at the plugs being the same.Cool.I have a friend using a Mark VIII fan and he had to trim the shroud a little to fit with his aftermarket radiator.My "swap" concern was mainly grabbing a motor real quik from the yard.Is the motor between the VIII and the Taurus the same?Thanks for the info.
No, the motors are different, it's just certain years share the same plug (sorry i can't verify what year, i don't recall what mine came off of). As for trimming the VIII, i took 3/8 off the shoud all the way around. Be really careful not to take too much or the fan clip will rub a hole through the radiator (just happened to my buddy).
Keep in mind that just because the fan isn't touching the radiator sitting still, when it starts up the force of the blades pulls the fan towards the radiator and if you only have a tiny bit of clearance, you might rub while running, and if your car is loud you won't even hear it.
I'm gonna be looking into whether or not i can put the Taurus motor/fan blade into the VIII shroud, just because i like how well the shroud fits the radiator.
