Vin codes?

I have a 96 GT that has been upgraded on the inside to Cobra spec, with front bumper and wheels with 13 inch cross drilled rotors. It has about 90000 on the od. it is one of the 96s that the cruise doesnt work on. Heres the question though, the 8th digit is the engine and 10th is the year, but what does an X in the 8th digit mean. My car should be a W for a Gt and a V for a Cobra. Soooo what does the X stand for????????????

Nope "X" is correct for the Mustang GT. The "W" is also a 4.6L SOHC but it was not the motor in the Mustang GT. As you stated, the "V" denotes the Cobra's 4.6L DOHC.

1+ the w stamp represents the 215hp 4.6 sohc and the x represents the 225hp 4.6 sohc.
