Vista Install Question-- Eggheads Wanted Again!

I want to put Vista on a new computer I am building. Obviously, the HD will be new, so Im not sure If I can use an "UPGRADE" version of Vista. I have Windows XP on a different computer, and I have the licensed copy. Is there anyway I can get away with using the upgrade version? I dont know what they use to validate the upgrade version. If you just need to insert an XP copy, I can do that, but I dont want to compromise the computer that already has the XP on it.

You would have to install XP on the PC to use the upgrade version. Although, the upgrade version will give you the option to do a clean install as long as XP is already installed on the machine. Another option would be to install the OEM version from a retailer such as www.newegg.com

No, there is an easy way around this. Let me think...I saw it before how to use the upgrade disk...
Boot off the disk like normal, and install Vista like normal but do NOT use a cd key...it will install as a trial version.
Then just boot into windows and reinstall vista like normal with your key, doing a custom install to do a complete clean reinstall.

Or you can just download it But thats a nono

You can purchase an OEM copy of Vista from www.newegg.com for much less money than the retail copy. Then, you would just install the OEM version on your new hardware.

Na, no problem at all. XP Doesn't care if you switch computers with your product key, Vista does though.
