I need some input as in regareds to the loss of psi due to an engine equipt with heads cam and intake...I am putting a combo together and am not sure how much psi I will lose which is critical to the superchareger I choose...the combo consists of the following...

CNC ported GT-40 iron heads
Ported lower GT-40 intake
TrickFlow Stage II cam

rest of the boltons...

I am planning on running a Vortech SC-Trim...the one that comes with 5psi of boost...about how much psi will I lose with my H/C/I combo? My guess is about 2psi...anyone out there with more knowledge than me on this please contribute...

What size pulley would I need to ultimately get a true 8psi with my combo? How much would a powerpipe add if any? any guess as to how much HP when properly tuned a stock bottom 302 with H/C/I and 8lbs of boost is capable of? :flag:

i am regretting buying my A trim blower... i boguht it with 5 psi.. upgraded the crank to a 7 inch and kept the stock blower pulley and now im at 9.5 pounds of boost..... i am spinning the heck out of it to make 9 pounds... probably when i get a HCI like you, i would lose about two... an S trim upgrade is gonna come soon

Yeah you loose a couple lbs of boost but it is easier "stess" on the engine and still makes the power more efficently...

I'd put one on mine but I figure it would go boom (143k on stock bottomend) and don't have any places that can do a dyno tune on a mustang (or atleast knowledgeable about it)...

Good Luck w/ it...

Actually the A-trim is the same thing or very similar to the SC-trim...I believe the A-trim is capable of 15psi-20psi of boost so you are not really hurting it...The SC-Trim is actually more efficiant since you can spin it at a higher impeller speed...I believe that is somewhere in the 53,000 RPM than the S-trim as it is at 50,000 RPM...just get a 12lb pulley and be done with it...

well I guess I was close with my guestimate of 2 psi loss...when do you start making boost? 3000RPM?

woaaa no.. the a trim is usually 5-8 pounds... im maxin it at 9.5 right now..... i would much rather sping the blower much less safely at the minimum boost level of an S trim (9 pounds.) rather then push my blower hard to its max and push out 9 pounds... im gonna spend the 800 to convert it over.. i would say its hitting 5 right now at 4K rpm

Not sure what I want to do yet...I always wanted a set of AFR's with Ed's magic cam...He made me a cam for my GT-40X's and I love it but I know his speciality is AFR's...How do you like your set up? Is it torquey in the lower RPM's? I really don't want to get rid of the GT-40 iron heads since they are a nice set that came with the car...but either way I look at it Ed services without the intake will cost me about $1800...OR I can spend $1800 on a SC-Trim and slap that on my GT-40's and call it a day...Would you mind sharing your cam specs through a PM? I always wanted to see the difference in cam profiles especially from the AFR's as to the one Ed made me...this is just for my use ONLY...I can share mine too if you'd like...

I have gt40 heads and intake. with the sc-trim I made 5 psi at 5500 rpm with a 75mm MAF and all the restrictive vortech intake crap. I just switched to a 80mm maf and upr power pipe. I hope to least make 6psi with the stock pullies. My friend runs a 7 inch crank pulley with stock blower pulley and makes between 10-11psi.

Not at all..at 5-8psi...you are still safe...Those can handle 15-20psi...the A-Trim is virtually the same as SC-Trim...you will not hurt it...I've talked to the vortech engineers about this before...don't waste your money with the conversion...the only reason the S-trim is more than the SC-Trim is because it carries a 3 year warrenty with the 8lb pulley and comes with all the other junk you can get for half the price elsewhere...as oppose to the 5psi of the SC-Trim...

Pm sent :nice:

You'd make more power with that supercharger (as you know) so I would just keep what you got and go with the supercharger...
