Happened to glance through Motortrend today and noticed they had an article on a white supercharged Mach 1. They had this thing rated at 484hp (to the crank). Very impressive #'s, considering that they stated that they ran sub 12 second times with it.

My question is this...how do they expect this engine to hold together? They were running 10lbs of boost through this block that to my knowledge has the same hyperreutectic pistons and powder-coated rods as my GT. It's a cool car, but isn't this thing going to start throwing rods eventually?

It should be good for a long while as long as there's no detonation. 484 flywheel is about 410-415 at the wheels. That power level would be reasonably safe as well on a well tuned Vorteched GT (2v).

I know of a guy in my area who's dynoed at 503 to the wheels on a stock block Vorteched 01 Cobra ..on pump gas...and ran 11.93 at just under 122mph. Although the engine specs are different between the 99/01 Cobras and Mach Is, the pistons and rods are of like strength.

With the high compression that the mach engine has I think that its living on borrowed time.

Yes, that's the one thing I don't like about the Mach. ... high compression makes detonation much harder to keep at bay.
