Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. I am in the process of doing a mass air conversion on my '88 with a T-5Z trans, and am stuck on the VSS install. I can get the VSS into the trans without the cable attatched, but then I can't get the correct angle on the cable to get it into the VSS. It seems like the exhaust hanger/bracket is in the way. When I install the cable into the VSS and then try to insert them into the trans as 1 unit I have the same clearance problem. Also, I had to reverse the bracket on the VSS to get it to bolt up to the T5-Z case. I read that one solution may be to to cut off the exhaust hangers on the H-pipe. Is that the only way? If need be aren't I better off cutting off just the driver's side so I have at least SOME support from the passanger's side hanger. Also, do the cars that have factory VSS have clearance issues or do they use a different exhaust hanger setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

is this an original T-5 car? Only issue i can imagine is using an AOD exhaust hanger with the t-5. That would cause an issue.

Do you have pics?

Yes, original T-5 car. I'm thinking I just need a little more time/patience. I was trying to get it done before heading to work. I'm thinking it's best to install the VSS in the trans first, then the cable into the VSS. Any problemn with reversing the bracket on the VSS, it's a little different than the bracket on the non-VSS speddo cable, and the bolt won't reach unless I do.

The little nub should fit in torwards the trans. Bolt it up like this pic shows. Then, the speedo cable snaps into it.

Then, the VSS speedo cable fits into the end and locks in place.

I might have pics of my setup for when i added it to my '88 when i prepared for MAF. I didn't have any issues...all fit in fine.

Actually..i'm sure i have pics of it

Here ya go. Best pic i had.

Check the install of the exhaust hanger that it looks like the way mine is routed. It's possible to reverse it and have that cause interference
