I am trying to look into putting a turbo on the 2001 V6 mustang my father gave me. I can't find any v6 turbo kits for the year and I would like to keep the setup on a budget of around $2k. I won't be doing any racing with it just want some extra power for fun. Looking for any recommendations on stores and parts

Take that $3k and spend 1/3 of it on a wrecked GT with a good motor and trans. Swap it all to V8. Or sell your car and buy a GT.

I don't think he was looking for advice on how to spend his money,he was asking for information from knowledgeable people on how to turbo a v6

Might check the On3turbo site. My son used the 302 v8 kit on a 86 tbird fox body. He did have to do a lot of fabrication and the kit needs a few minor tweeks...... That said, it ain't a bolt in. You will need a tuner and a exhaust system. All things considered, unless you are very skillful?......Getting a v8 car is not bad advice at all and probably less $$$$$ in the long run. We are piece by piece building the rear bumper 3" exhaust system this weekend as it was too noisy for the front fender exit on the street.....SURE sounded good!!!. I turbo charged a VW sandrail 20/25 years ago, it was just stupid fast for what it was...

This whole forum is about advice on how to spend ppls money. On car parts and upgrades. This is my advice and experience from dealing with these cars for 20 years. Doing anything to the V6 is a complete waste of money and time. The only 6 banger stanger worth messing with is the Cyclone.

Exhaust, Windstar intake, that's it if you absolutely have to but you won't win any races. I'd leave it stock and worry about saving up for a better platform to start with or a donor car for a swap.

It would be easier and cheaper to sell the V6 and buy a GT for what it costs in money and time to make the swap. There's no shortage of SN95 GTs... Yet

It isn't useless to make performance upgrades to a V6. Not everyone is trying to push into the 10s in a quarter mile. A little more torque in the bottom and up through the middle makes for a super nice street/cruise combo. Done right, they even sound good.

You can do a nice street/cruise combo without doing anything to it... I mean if you need dual exhaust for the sound I get that but to each their own. Swapping is really just a pain in the ass because of the wiring and fuel, if you have a donor car it's not exactly hard just time consuming. Find a wrecked 96-98 2V for the rear/suspension/wiring/fuel and a Mark VIII engine or a 99-02 Conti engine and get a bellhousing adapter made for it for a real cheap 4V upgrade too.

If he's dead set on keeping the sixxer for $2k he should do the windstar intake, exhaust and then suspension and call it a day.
