I got Shelby's autograph on a print I have of him driving a GT-350H back in 96' only cost me $25. Has it gone up that much?
He was a very nice guy howver.

LOL..I can get Linda's signature every year at SEMA with no wait.

She signed a hurst poster for a buddy of mine that said, "Hey John, Shift This!"

She is one cool lady.

I am not an autograph collector, per se, but I have gotten a few over the years. Alex Zinardi, Jacques Villinueve, Jimmy Vasser, Little Al, all the CART champions for about 6-7 years as we distributed the yearbook and all the drivers wanted them. I would trade them a book in exchange for a signature. I ended up selling those off.

I have a repro poster of the 1958 GP of Cuba, signed by Juan Fangio. It even has a photo of him signing it attached. I bought it the week he died for $125. After he died that week, I was offered $750 straight up. I decided to keep it and have it custom framed.

The GP of Cuba was Fangio's final season to a record breaking career, and it was the GP where Castro's rebels kidnapped him to show the world that they were serious. It was the last GP held in Cuba, not suprisingly, and the funny thing was that Fangio understood and befriended his kidnappers and they released him unharmed in time to catch his flight home. He remained friends with them until his death 10 years ago.

Last year at the Monterey Historic Races they had a special autograph session with all the Ford racing legends. I was lucky enough to get a poster autographed by such greats as Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney, Parnelli Jones, Jackie Stewart, Ed Leslie, Lloyd Ruby, Dick Hutcherson, Bob Bonderaunt, Dave Freidman, and many more. I was in such shock, I didn't even think of getting a second one signed to sell on ebay!

Actually he was Shelby's "official" photographer, without him and his photos, and later the books he's written, most of the Shelby facts would be second and third hand at best. He is as much a part of Shelby's racing history as any one of them.

I know very well who he is, as we have published many books using "his" archives. His in quotes because the source of many of his photos was dubious.

I just don't think he belongs with the other guys on your list, is all. I have always seperated guys who make history vs. those who record it. Just one guy's opinion...

Back in the year Carroll Drove the Viper pace car (94?) he showed up at the Indiana SAAC "spring fling". This was 1 week before the Indy 500, and the Fling is always at Brown County State Park. That is about a 1 hour drive south of Indy near Nashville IN.
He was mobbed for autographs, sat under a tent signing them. Then he got up and went around to EVERY car owner in the show, and signed their car.
I got my GT 350 signed twice, once when I got in line and had my dash center section with me, and then later when he sat in the car so sign the visor. He also signed the visor of my 66 GT coupe.

Oh, it was FREE then. Lucky me. And, people still point that out when they're looking the car over at a car show.
