Warranty void?

It is my understanding that current law prohibit manufacturers from voiding the warranty because of aftermarket modifications, BUT...

You have to be careful about this. It depends on whether the dealership you frequent is populated with decent human beings, but any warranty claim on a part that could be "directly affected" by a modification could be voided. To take an example:

If you put on a supercharger and your engine blows, it is unlikely that warranty would cover it, but if I'm not mistaken it would be illegal for the dealership to deny a warranty claim on your radio or A/C just because you put on a supercharger. Of course, they may TRY, so you'd have to go through the hassle of quoting the law at them and "demonstrating" that, no, my supercharger didn't start making my CDs skip. But of course, dems the breaks when you mod a car. :)

DeMolet or bust!

Hey I posted awhile back about getting a cold air intake and I think I might be doing the C&L as suggested by many of you. But I have a reservation, will it void my warranty?

I would ask you to look at the DeMolet kit before you make a buy. The best feature to this kit, well two are the owner is awesome and will help you before, during, and after the sale; also the C&L kit is metal and we all know how hot these cars get under the hood so heat soak is an issue. Just my two cents.

No I have had all my warranty work done after my CAI installed and all they say is that it's a clean looking and nice sounding piece.

C&L

I have never heard of DeMolet. This of course doesnt mean everything said about them is not true. For what it's worth, I have been running the Brenspeed 93 octane tune and used the SCT Xcal2 to get it done. The results were amazing and it has huge power everywhere from idle to well over 6.000 rpm.
I never had any trouble, no fault code lights, nothing. It did however make a huge improvement in my gas mileage, so I cant imagin what other modification you can do to this car with out opening up the engine that would prouduce this kind of power AND great mileage too!

Brent, owner of Brenspeed is the most helpfull, patient, and knowlegable person you will talk to about this.Later, if you decide to change your set up on the car, like 410 gears, supercharger etc, he will set you up with a modified "just for your car's needs" file and email it to you. Using the usb cable that comes with the Xcal, you down load the file to the Xcal, and go out and run the program on your car.

Best of all, when your new to this. Brent WILL answere every one of your questions till your satisfied you know what you wanted to know, and he does this with friendly patience and understanding of your concerns, after all this crap is new to us! Most places wont. The C&L intake is well made and totally compleate. There is no concerns that it "heat soaks" because its made of cast aluminum.

As far as the warranty goes, I made it a point to talk to severall different service advisors at the dealership. You can tell when you have the "right" person. I asked point blank, " do I need to return my tune to stock and replace the stock intake before bringing it in?"

Hell no, was what he told me. He was impressed with the look of the C&L, and was VERY impressed with the off idle throttle responce. He checked out the SCT Xcal2 in the glovebox and said it was awsome! I took my car in for the TSB on the rear end clutch packs on the 07 GT's with everything in place.
Yesterday, I had the oil changed, and the tech told me the C&L was the best performing and best looking CAI he ever saw, and he see's them all the time in the shop on new Stangs.

All this is great, but the other's are right in that dealers operate differently from each other. You may feel more comfortable by returning the tune to stock, and putting the stock air box back on before running to the dealer for work. This whole process takes at most 10 minutes. I tried that once to see the difference. I wont do it again, because the car felt like it was pulling a trailer or something. Back to the huge lag in throttle responce too, it was nasty, and I hought the car was very fast when I first got it. Night and day difference.

Please, let's not re-hash the plastic vs metal heat soak debate again ?? this issue along with whether or not mods void the factory warranty have been debated time and time again ? just do a search and you'll find plenty of answers to all your questions..:SNSign:
