warranty work denied by ford service dept.

I took my car in this morining to one of the local ford dealers, the same dealer that sold me the car. I dropped it off to let them look at my destroyed right rear torque box. They called me and tried to say that my modifications voided any warranty work. I was quick to tell them they could not do this. I then went up to the dealer to talk to the head mechanic. They had the service manager talk to me and he again tried to deny the warranty work due to mods. He then realized that I new the laws on the warranty and that he could not void it. He then changed his story and said that ford denied the work due to improper driving. He claims that my catback and shifter caused my torque box welds to break and crack away from the car. I asked to see the car on a lift with the head mechanic and he told me to hold on for a minute. He went to talk to another worker and came said that my ud pulleys were the problem. According to some random ford service employee who had not even looked at the car "they cause this problem on most cars that they are installed on". After I told him that he wall full of s**t and that I did not want anyone but the mechanics opinion, he said that he would not put my car on a lift and that I needed to leave the building.

What do I need to do to get this taken care of? My upper control arm is about to break completely loose and I do not want to risk it. Who should I call or get in contact with to get a solution? Thanks for any help in advance.

Just take it to a Shop that can weld it back in place
It is a 01 and the warranty is almost up if not up!

Ford actually quoted me a repair bill for $1300 before I went to get the car. That is what caused the big dispute between me and the service manager.
I am going to take it to a frame shop tomorrow to get them to look at it. The only problem is the rear end is set back about 2 inches on the right side. It also moves everytime I change gears. There is only one spot weld on a cracked bracket that is holding the UCA to the car. I am going to find someone to fix it tomorrow.

yea dude is going to put my subframes , control arms , weld up everything and probably change fluid in the rear end which I will buy myself and take to him , but he has quoted me work before , and probably do everything for under 200 bucks and get it done in half a day at that .

what bs

This kind of crap really pisses me off. What, are the welds on the cobras different? The Mach Ones? They are just lazy techs I would call ford motor company and complain. Don't lay down and let them rape you! I have a friend that worked at ford and he told me that if the work was tedious or the job didn't pay well tech's would do that alot if they could. You might even try a different dealer. It makes a pretty big difference some times.

Be glad you got it back from Ford with nothing else wrong with it than what you brought it in for  . That does suck though man. I would take it to a shop regardless. Ford is going to charge you an arm and a leg for about 150 bucks worth of work.

My .02c

I can see by the article how someone with slicks destroys toque boxes, but how the hell can you destroy them on stock rubber? Slicks would grap cus thats their job. While grabbing you got one force working against another.....but stock rubber....we all know what happens with that....just spins and smokes, giving way less force than a slick.......DUDE HOW THE HELL DID YOU DESTROY YOUR TORQUE BOX!?

Btw......my waranty is done but I have an extended waranty.....Ford screws me like that I'll make them give me a rebate on my waranty, or see me in court!

I WORK AT A FORD DEALER WE WOULD WARRANTY YOUR CONCERN AS LOONG AS THERE IS NO SIGNS OF ABUSE. THE MODS YOU HAVE WILL NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE TORQUE BOXES, THEY ARE PLENTY STRONG. YOUR DEALER IS PROBABLY IN SOME KIND OF WARRANTY CLAIM TROUBLE WITH FORD AND IS AFRAID TO TURN IN THE CLAIM. CLAIMS LIKE YOURS CAN TRIGGER AUDITS AND IF THEIR BOOKS ARE NOT CLEAN I COULD COST THE DEALER A TON OF MONEY. SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR SITUATION, WISH I COULD HELP BUT I AM WAY TO FAR AWAY. I HATE WHEN DEALERS LIKE THE ONE YOU WENT TO GIVE US ALL A BAD REP!!!

just tell them "'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' YOU 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'GOTS!" and take the car to another dealership that would service your work. Call other dealerships and talk to them and then see if they can help you out. After all it IS still under warranty and theyre just feeding you bull'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' so their asses get paid instead of covering you. I hate these techs/Service managers. :nonono:

I am going first thing in the morning to another dealer. I have a connection there and should have went there to begin with. The guy wants to look at the car and he said that none of my mods should be held accountable for the damage to the torque boxes. If they take care of it I am going to call ford to complain about the other dealers service department.

To answer the question "DUDE HOW THE HELL DID YOU DESTROY YOUR TORQUE BOX!?" I have no idea. I have only put 10k miles on the car and I have never drag raced it. I drive it like anyone else would. I guess they expect everyone to shift at 1500 rpm and leave the traction control on.

i am having the trouble with my warranty also. i have an esp and my car has fouled the head 3 times in a row. the first 2 times ford fixed it and asked me if their was a chip on the car. i had one but i had sold it. the third time ford needed to replace the engine and when it came down to it my warranty was voided. they claimed that their was proof of a chip being on the car and caused it to over rev and blow the engine. i am the 2nd owner of the car and i believe that their was a chip on it before i owned it. what really caused the problem was the car popped out of gear causing to over rev and blow the engine. they dont see it that way though. if anyone knows how i could maybe fight this and get my warranty reinstated i would be very thankful.

p.s. they are also charging me 320.00 to get it out of the shop. also is their a way for them to check the pcm to see if a chip was on it.

Dealerships are gay. They sell you a car that is known to be drag raced but voids the warranty for someone doing it. WTF!

It was Crossroads Ford in Cary. I was happy with their sales dept. but their service dept. needs some help. They have the worst customer service and the service manager is on a power trip. I am going to call Ford to let them know. I am also going to call the service managers boss. I will never deal with Crossroads again on anything

The torque boxes are what the control arms attach to under the rear seat. One end is attached to the torque box and the other is attached to the rear end. If I am wrong about this please correct me though.

It seems that the service people are looking at the types and numbers of mods made on this Mustang, and are assuming that if the owner has made such mods, they must also be abusing the car (dragging, racing, etc).

I am not saying that the owner is actually doing that, or that such reasoning by the service people is valid. I am just pointing out that I think this is their line of reasoning. Knowing that is important if one is going to confront or challenge it.
